Three years later, weird weather anomalies begin to occur, including an entire town in Afghanistan being instantaneously frozen solid, while chief engineer of the Pacific division of Dutch Boy, Cheng Long (DANIEL WU), barely survives a wave of destruction that damages a great deal of Hong Kong. Under the command of President Andrew Palma (ANDY GARCIA) and specifically Secretary of State Leonard Dekkom (ED HARRIS), Max -- who's secretly dating Secret Service agent Sarah Wilson (ABBIE CORNISH) who's on the President's detail -- is ordered to find his estranged brother and get him to fix the problem.

Living out of a trailer with partial custody of his 13-year-old daughter, Hannah (TALITHA BATEMAN), Jake initially wants no part of this, but it doesn't take much for Max to convince him to head up to the ISS and see what's happening. There, he finds chief scientist Ute Fassbinder (ALEXANDRA MARIA LARA) and they and their small team begin to look for answers. As they do so, more systems fail and those with access to computer systems find themselves locked out, resulting in both Jake and Max believing something nefarious is going on. As they try to figure out who's responsible, they're in a race against time as it's quite likely all of the separate outbreaks of severe weather will combine into one catastrophic superstorm known as a Geostorm.
