QUICK TAKE:: Drama: A young man mourns the death of his estranged father, then discovers he has a sister and a nephew he never knew he had.

PLOT:

Sam (CHRIS PINE) is a Type A salesman working for a New York-based corporate bartering company run by a demanding boss (JON FAVREAU). He is good-looking, ambitious, and dates an attractive woman named Hannah (OLIVIA WILDE), who is preparing for a law career. Then, one day, he finds out his estranged father has passed away and that he is expected to return home for the funeral. He does what he can to try and miss his plane, but ultimately Hannah gets him home to Los Angeles.

Once home, he has to deal with Lillian (MICHELLE PFEIFFER), his bitter mother who took care of Sam's cancer-stricken dad alone for years. At the reading of the will, his dad's attorney (PHILIP BAKER HALL) tells him that he has inherited his father's prized record collection and is tasked with finding a kid named Josh (MICHAEL HALL D'ADDARIO) and giving him a $150,000 payout from the dad's estate.

Sam soon learns that Josh is his nephew and that his mother is the result of an affair his father had years earlier. Her name is Frankie (ELIZABETH BANKS), a single mom and recovering alcoholic. Sam insinuates himself into their lives without telling them who he is and how much money they stand to inherit (partly because he has debt of his own). Soon, though, Frankie starts to develop romantic feelings for him and he has no choice.
