QUICK TAKE:: Romantic Comedy: Following a one-night stand, a couple ends up falling in love in New York, but after six weeks together must contend with being in a long-distance relationship when the woman moves back to San Francisco to finish graduate school.

PLOT:

Erin (DREW BARRYMORE) is a 31-year-old intern at the New York Sentinel where she hopes one day to work as a real and full-time reporter. Garrett (JUSTIN LONG) works at a New York based record label where he's stuck handling boy bands rather than bringing true talent to the forefront of the music scene. The two meet one night at a bar where he's out drinking with his roommate, Dan (CHARLIE DAY), and their friend, Box (JASON SUDEIKIS), who are consoling him over his recent break-up with his girlfriend.

Garrett and Erin immediately hit it off and, following sleeping together, agree to keep their relationship casual. That's not only because he just got out of one, but also because she's moving back to San Francisco in 6 weeks to live with her sister, Corinne (CHRISTINA APPLEGATE), and her husband, Phil (JIM GAFFIGAN), while finishing her last year of graduate school at Stanford.

Yet, as those weeks pass, the two end up falling in love and decide to continue dating, albeit in a long-distance relationship. But they quickly discover that phone calls, text messages and occasional visits in person are poor substitutes for the real and consistent thing. Throw in the fact that Garrett finds himself jealous of Damon (OLIVER JACKSON-COHEN), the handsome bartender at the restaurant where Erin works, and she becomes suspicious of Garrett's attractive coworker, Brianna (KELLI GARNER), and the couple realizes they're going to have a hard time dating from across the country.

CAST AS ROLE MODELS:: DREW BARRYMORE plays a 31-year-old intern at a New York City newspaper who wants to turn that into a full-time gig, but ends up returning to San Francisco to live with her sister and attend her final year of grad school. With only 6 weeks to go, she isn't looking for any sort of romantic relationship, but unintentionally ends up falling into one after having a one-night stand with Garrett and then spending that last month and a half dating him. After that, she must contend with them trying to carry on a long-distance, cross-country relationship. She uses strong profanity, drinks (including to the point of intoxication), and briefly smokes pot with Garrett.
JUSTIN LONG plays her boyfriend, a record label employee who's had a hard time fully committing to any of his girlfriends, but seems to have turned the corner when he meets, beds, spends time with and then eventually falls for Erin. Here's a brief summary of the content found in this R-rated romantic comedy. Profanity consists of at least 61 "f" words, while other expletives and colorful phrases are also uttered. Sexually related dialogue (some of it explicit, including a scene of phone sex) and material are present in various scenes, while there's a fairly graphic encounter (although ultimately played for laughs), other sex, other fooling around and implied sex. Nudity (male bare butt, barely obscured full frontal) is also present.

Drinking (including intoxication) and brief drug use (pot) occur, as do some thematic elements. Crude humor is present, as are bad attitudes and various instances of potentially imitative behavior.

Erin then has beer with Garrett and his friends, while we see bottles of liquor along the bar wall.

BLOOD/GORE: We see Corinne furiously cleaning her dining room table after catching Garrett and Erin having sex there, and she's grossed out when she finds and picks up a pubic hair from the table crack. Even later, a dinner guest picks up a corn cob that rolled across the table and eats from that, disturbing Corinne, followed by more food ending up on the table that a girl picks up. Corinne then grabs and throws that across the room to prevent her from eating it.
Box and Garrett return to Garrett's place to find Dan sitting on the toilet (nothing seen or heard), with a mention that they have an open door policy. Box is grossed out, holds his nose, and refuses to hand Dan the beer he requested and that Garrett sat on the floor several feet away from him. DISRESPECTFUL/BAD ATTITUDE: When her coworker points out some younger guys at a bar, Erin says she has no intention of getting date raped (some viewers might not like that half-joke).
Phil and another man get on Garrett's case for putting pressure on them to behave romantically around their wives (like Garrett is doing for Erin).
About them having a small Christmas tree, Dan complains to Garrett that people will think they're gay.
While intoxicated and responding to a man being mad about her nearly hitting him with a dart in a bar, Erin tells him to "suck my d*ck." Damon tries to step in and say she doesn't really have one, but she says she does, repeats that, jokes with the man that they can "jack-off" together to Transformers, and then tells him that steroid use results in a small "d*ck."

He then jokingly says she can leave her money (for the sex) on the nightstand.
As they discuss not wanting to get into a relationship, Garrett tells Erin he just got out of a relationship, and then sheepishly says he won't tell her it was last night (when they just met). She then jokes that she now knows he's a "male whore." Later, Box asks how someone like Garrett can get dumped and "laid" on the same night, and then jokingly says he should eat "d*ck."

We next see Garrett and Erin trying to have phone sex, with her not being into it at first and just playing along, saying he's wearing red lace panties, garters and such when he asks. She then asks what he's wearing and he asks her what's sexy. She replies boxers, and he asks if she means the kind Marky Mark wore. She enthusiastically replies yes, and that if he even just says Marky Mark "I'll f*cking come." Garrett mentions he's "horny" and she says she's touching herself right now, especially in the wet parts. They then use the "f" word sexually several times, and he mentions he wants to "come" on her, but she tells him to do so on the towel next to him. Erin and Garrett make out while seated on a bed, but her news that she might be taking a job in San Francisco ruins the mood for him (as she hadn't told him about applying or interviewing for it), and nothing else happens.
While in a bar, Dan states he might get "laid" by one of the ladies he's eyeing, but they all say no or shake their heads.
Garrett's attractive coworker shows a lot of cleavage in a bar. Later, when Erin enters Garrett's apartment, she catches sight of this women wrapped in just a sheet and thinks the worst, but then sees Dan (in a robe) follow her into the bathroom as he states that was the best sex.
After saying she's checking out guys' "packages" in a bar, Erin's intoxicated friend grabs her phone and tells Garrett that Erin will meet some guy in the bar, make out, and have a baby with him.
We see Erin in a shower when Garrett walks into the bathroom (clothed, as he's just arrived). When she says she's decided to move to New York to be with him, he gets into the shower with her and they kiss (he's still clothed and she's still nude, but we don't see anything explicit).
Corinne warns Garrett that if he breaks Erin's heart she (Corinne) will "cut your balls off."
Garrett wears a fake mustache to go along with Box trying to pick up older women (who show cleavage) at their thirtieth graduation anniversary party. Box mentions a one-night fling with one being like riding a horse down the Grand Canyon and then saying goodbye.
Garrett and Erin do some kissing at a club. When they return to Corinne's home, they hear sexual noises, turn on the lights, and find Phil "dry humping" Corinne on top of the dining room table.
