QUICK TAKE:
Comedy: A martial arts expert tries to track down the villain who killed his parents many years ago in this parody of bad martial arts films.
PLOT:
In this parody of poorly dubbed martial arts films, the Chosen One (STEVE OEDEKERK) is a martial arts expert who's been wandering the countryside for years, searching in vain for the villain who killed his parents when he was just a baby. Always under attack due to his chosen status and the unique character - "Tonguey" - that resides on the tip of his tongue, the man seeks refuge and help from Master Tang (CHEN HUI LOU) at his Crane School.

There, he meets Tang's various students, including Ling (TSE LING LING), who's assigned to help him, and Wimp Lo (LAU KAR WING) who's jealous of him being the Chosen One. Tang informs him that they've been waiting for him to help free them from the grips of the mysterious Council that controls Master Pain, a.k.a. "Betty" (LUNG FAI), who was responsible for murdering the Chosen One's family so long ago.

Realizing he's near, the Chosen one sets out to find Pain and get his revenge, but must wait to grow stronger for their battle, something that occurs with the aid of Tang, Ling and a mysterious, woman, Whoa (JENNIFER TUNG), who has just one large breast in the center of her chest.

    HOW OTHERS RATED THIS MOVIE

Curious if this title is entertaining, any good, and/or has any artistic merit?
Then read OUR TAKE of this film.

(Note: The "Our Take" review of this title examines the film's artistic merits and does not take into account any of the possibly objectionable material listed below).

    OUR WORD TO PARENTS:
The following is a quick look at the content in this comedy that's been rated PG-13 where none of the material is meant to be taken seriously. All sorts of martial arts violence is present (exaggerated and played only for laughs), with many people being killed or injured by the action. Some of that includes a man attempting to strike a nimble baby (who's proficient at defending himself via martial arts) with a knife.

Some of that violence has bloody results (but not the baby material), although none of it looks realistic. Various instances of crude humor or related comments are present, as is some material that some kids could possibly want to imitate, while various characters have varying degrees of bad attitudes (although all are filtered through the attempted comedy).

Profanity consists of a handful of mild expletives and colorful phrases, while some non-explicit, sexually related comments are made. A few characters are seen in revealing attire (including a woman who has just one large breast in the center of her chest), a woman repeatedly flashes a man (we only see her from behind and thus don't see what he does), and some slight homosexual references and material are present. Two characters spar with their tongues, while a dog humps a man's leg.

Beyond that and a brief drug reference, the rest of the film's categories have little or nothing in the way of major objectionable content. Nevertheless, should you still be concerned about the film and its appropriateness for anyone in your home, you may want to examine our detailed listings more closely.

    ALCOHOL OR DRUG USE
  • When we hear that the Chosen One occasionally "partied with the desert creatures," we see a shot of him dancing around with a mug of something in his hand (that's presumably alcoholic).
  • As the Chosen One does various style pushups (including the last ones where he uses his breath to move his body up and down off the ground), another man enthusiastically states that he has to get some of whatever he's smoking.
  • BLOOD/GORE
  • None of the following is remotely meant to be taken seriously (and little if any of it looks realistic).
  • An infant pees in a villain's face as they fight.
  • The Chosen One punches all of the way through a man's chest, leaving a cylindrical and large hole in it (and we see the "plug" lying on the ground).
  • We see some men fall to the ground after the Chosen One has pulled out their eyeballs (that we see attached to the ends of his fingers with a little bit of blood).
  • As the Chosen One lets out a prolonged martial arts scream, we see a stream of blood pop out from his strained neck.
  • As person recounts a meeting with another person in the past, we hear a loud farting sound that resulted in a dog's death (we hear the dog fall over). We later hear that again.
  • Wimp Lo has a little bit of blood from his nose.
  • Mr. Tang tells some men that they will receive the fist of fury and then tells someone to prepare the long rubber glove. He then adds, "Eeny, meeny, miny mo, I wonder where my glove will go?" (a scatological joke).
  • Wimp Lo has some blood from his nose while fighting the Chosen One.
  • After we hear that Master Pain will cut off people's big toes, we see a small pool of blood around a man's shoe, and then see blood squirting out from it as the person walks.
  • As a cow and The Chosen One have a martial arts fight, the cow repeatedly shoots its milk from its udders at him (that he then pulls and bites).
  • A man has a little bit of a bloody bandage on his chest.
  • Master Pain fights with two men (more martial arts material), smashing one headfirst into a wall (we see blood on it after he falls away).
  • During a faked intermission, a character comes onto the screen and states that he has some yellow liquid for your popcorn and that it's not dairy based.
  • We see some blood on a person's shirt around the steel claw in their back. When the Chosen One rolls him over, we then see a moderate amount of blood on his face and neck (although it looks fake).
  • We see a woman on the ground with a bit of blood on her neck and face, and then see a dog that has some blood on its fur.
  • The palms of the Chosen One's hands are bloody.
  • We see some bloody clothing over a person's leg stump.
  • The Chosen One has some blood on his back and the hole in his shirt where he was clawed.
  • We see a little bit of blood from the Chosen One's mouth during a fight.
  • Blood squirts out from two spots on Pain's shirt after the Chosen One has yanked two objects from there.
  • DISRESPECTFUL/BAD ATTITUDE
  • None of the following is remotely meant to be taken seriously.
  • Master Pain has both for killing the Chosen One's family and others, and for fighting various people.
  • Wimp Lo is jealous of the Chosen One and briefly fights with him while trying to impress Ling.
  • FRIGHTENING SCENES
  • Although none of it's remotely played in anything resembling suspense, some viewers might not like the opening scene where Master Pain attempts to stab an infant with a large knife (which results in the baby avoiding his effort and engaging him in martial arts fighting). The same then holds true for that same baby (obviously a doll) rolling and bouncing down a rocky hill.
  • GUNS/WEAPONS
  • Knives/Spears/Poles/Steel Claws (that are attached to a chain and thrown at people)/Throwing star: Used to attack, wound or kill various people. See "Violence" for details.
  • IMITATIVE BEHAVIOR
  • None of the following is remotely meant to be taken seriously.
  • Phrases: "Scum," "Idiot," "If you've got an ass, I'll kick it," "What in God's name is that thing?" "Nuts" and "Balls" (testicles), "Sucks," "Frickin,'" "My ass," "I've come to kick ass," "Jeez," "You son of a pig," "I didn't recognize you without crap in your pants," "Bitch" (said by a man about another man), "I've got some ass kicking for you," "One boob chick," "Wussy," "Sadistic psycho bitch," "Scam some chicks," "Slut" and "All hell broke loose."
  • All of the martial arts fighting could possibly entice some kids to try that.
  • Master Pain has four men repeatedly strike him with a pole (across his body including direct blows to the crotch), to prove how tough he is.
  • The palms of the Chosen One's hands are bloody. Ling then wonders if that hurts and he says that it doesn't. She then proceeds to squeeze lemon juice on them, then pours salt, mercury from a broken thermometer and then gasoline on them, the latter of which she ignites causing his hands to be on fire briefly.
  • JUMP SCENES
  • None.
  • MUSIC (SCARY/TENSE)
  • A mild amount of comically suspenseful music plays in a few scenes.
  • MUSIC (INAPPROPRIATE)
  • A song has the lyrics that the singer likes "big butts," while another uses the word "damn" twice.
  • PROFANITY
  • At least 4 asses, 2 craps, 2 damns, 1 slang term for breasts ("boob") and 1 incomplete "son of a…" are used as exclamations.
  • SEX/NUDITY
  • None of the following is remotely meant to be taken seriously.
  • While fighting an attacker, the Chosen One tears at the man's clothing until we see that the man is left wearing just a bikini designed for women.
  • We briefly see a woman in a revealing top, whose partially visible breasts jiggle as she hits the ground.
  • Ling briefly opens her blouse and flashes the Chosen One (we see some cleavage).
  • Whoa is a woman with just one enormous breast in the middle of her chest and we see part of it as she wears a low-cut top. The Chosen One repeatedly stares at it (as does the camera).
  • After the Chosen One and Whoa briefly spar using martial arts moves (and she acts somewhat sensuously toward him), they do the same with their tongues (both sticking them out and striking the other's) and she ends up with her leg up alongside his body.
  • Seeing some curls of hair touching Ling's face, the Chosen One tells her that they make him so hot that he can't think straight.
  • As Mr. Tang repeatedly presses near another man's chest wound (that's covered by a bandage), Tang begins to act in somewhat of a homosexual fashion with a comment being made about not stopping and spoiling it if it works for both of them. We later see this again during the outtakes during the end credits, where the man doing the rubbing states he's rehearsing (as both seem slightly aroused by this behavior).
  • Ling says something about being a "tiny, horny honey" in relation to the Chosen One. The two then make agreeable sounds to each other, and she then repeatedly flashes her body to him (we only see her bare back but he sees everything). She then states that she's ready for love, that she needs him now in the worst way, and that she can't control it. She then tells him to take her, but adds that she doesn't want him to think she's a slut. She finally drops her entire outfit and we briefly see her (from behind) wearing just some small panties. She pulls her clothes back up and the two hug (so we don't know if anything else happens as the scene ends there).
  • We see two men hanging by their feet, their bodies swaying back and forth. We then hear dubbed, voice over dialogue of one stating he's swinging a lot, the other a little, but then adds that they both swing if you know what they mean.
  • The Chosen One's dog shows up and begins to hump Master Pain's leg.
  • SMOKING
  • None.
  • TENSE FAMILY SCENES
  • Ling believes her father has died (but it's all played for laughs).
  • TOPICS TO TALK ABOUT
  • Martial arts films and the fighting and stunts that occur in them.
  • VIOLENCE
  • None of the following is remotely meant to be taken seriously, and is all played for exaggerated laughs.
  • Master Pain strikes and presumably kills the Chosen One's father, and we then hear his mother scream as she and the rest of the family are presumably killed. Master Pain then approaches the Chosen One, just an infant, and attempts to stab and kill him with a knife, but the baby grabs his arm and then engages in a bout of martial arts fighting with him and another person (kicking and hitting, etc.). During this, a person runs into a wall, the baby knocks him down, and Master Pain then throws his Steel Claw that hits at least one person in the back, presumably killing him. Master Pain then removes a larger knife and repeatedly tries to strike the child, who easily eludes him and then kicks him in the face several times. Master Pain then burns down the house, but the baby escapes.
  • The baby (obviously a doll) rolls and bounces down a rocky cliff (but is otherwise okay).
  • The Chosen One fights off various attackers who come at him (with punches and kicks). He then punches all of the way through a man's chest, leaving a cylindrical and large hole in it (the man falls to the ground dead).
  • A group of men attack the Chosen One with poles/spears that he punches, kicks and hits (including with two gophers he uses as nunchukas).
  • We then see some men fall to the ground after the Chosen One has pulled out their eyeballs (that we see attached to the ends of his fingers with a little bit of blood).
  • As person recounts a meeting with another person in the past, we hear a loud farting sound that resulted in a dog's death (we hear the dog fall over).
  • Some of Pain's men purposefully knock people over and strike others with poles.
  • The Chosen One knocks a man backwards by breaking some block he's holding.
  • Wimp Lo crashes into a wall as he tries to run and jump over it.
  • Wimp Lo and the Chosen One spar using martial arts moves.
  • Master Pain has four men repeatedly strike him with a pole (across his body including direct blows to the crotch), to prove how tough he is. When they stop, he knocks all of them backwards.
  • After we hear that Master Pain will cut off people's big toes, we see a small pool of blood around a man's shoe, and then see blood squirting out from it as the person walks.
  • The Chosen One wants others to hit him with poles (just like Master Pain did above), but he's not nearly as tough and ends up on the ground in pain and then unconscious as the men keep hitting him (since he told them not to stop until he signaled them). We can tell, however, that it's obviously a dummy they're hitting.
  • The Chosen One and Whoa briefly spar using martial arts moves.
  • Master Pain and Master Tang briefly fight. During this, Pain throws his steel claw that rips a man's clothing.
  • The Chosen One fights with a cow that's proficient at martial arts. During this, both land various punches and kicks to the other. The cow then head-butts him and then uses a pile driver wrestling technique on him (driving him headfirst into the ground). The Chosen One then pulls and bites the cow's udders.
  • Ling's father and the Chosen One fight with Master Pain who partially impales the Chosen One with his steel claw that he throws at him. Master Pain then tosses the two about, and they then fall over a tall waterfall (but are otherwise okay).
  • Master Pain fights with two men (more martial arts material), smashing one headfirst into a wall (we see blood on it after he falls away). He may kill both as we then see the men's bodies hanging by their feet.
  • Ling knocks two men aside and then runs off.
  • Master Pain and Master Tang fight again, with Pain getting Tang in the back and then the face with his steel claw.
  • Pain's steel claw hits a person in the back and they fall to the ground wounded.
  • We see some bloody clothing over a person's leg stump.
  • The Chosen One and Master Pain fight with martial arts moves. During this, the Chosen One throws a throwing star into a boom box to stop the song that's playing.
  • The Chosen One has some blood on his back and the hole in his shirt where he was clawed.
  • Master Pain hits the Chosen One on each arm, temporarily paralyzing them (he tries to hit Pain by flailing those arms at him), and then repeatedly hits him.
  • Blood squirts out from two spots on Pain's shirt after the Chosen One has yanked two objects from there.
  • The Chosen One pulls a flattened squirrel from his shirt (that took the impact of one of Pain's blows). It then crawls away, still flattened.
  • In some scenes from this film's sequel, we see the Chosen One being zapped with electrical current attached to his nipples.
