While his mother, Julie (JULIE HAGERTY), is happy to see him back home, his father, Jim (RIP TORN), is less than ecstatic, especially when he compares Gord to his ambitious younger brother, Freddy (EDDIE KAYE THOMAS), who holds down a good job in the banking industry.
After Gord's best friend, Darren (HARLAND WILLIAMS), breaks his leg in a skateboarding accident, Gord meets Betty (MARISA COUGHLAN), a paraplegic nurse and would-be rocket scientist. The two become romantically involved, and Gord makes up various lies to cover his unemployment.
As the relationship between Gord and Jim becomes progressively strained - eventually leading to Gord falsely accusing his father of "fingering" Freddy - the young artist must deal with his father, his relationship with Betty, and his desire to be a real animator.
The erections of a horse and elephant are seen (and both are handled by the protagonist who brings the elephant to orgasm) and the horse is seen mounting another horse (with movement). The protagonist also accuses his father of fondling his younger, adult brother, but that's not true. That father's bare butt is briefly seen.
All sorts of bloody and gross out material is also present, including that of the protagonist biting through an umbilical cord and swinging the attached baby around a room with it (splattering blood everywhere); that character licking a broken leg wound where the bone is protruding through the skin; the gutting of a dead deer (with bloody entrails coming out); and various instances of a young boy being accidentally injured (with various amounts of blood).
Various characters have varying degrees of bad attitudes, while all sorts of imitative behavior is present that impressionable kids might find enticing. Violence - while not played realistically or seriously - consists of some of the above bloody material, as well as some other accidental incidents and contact, and some brief pushing/hitting of others. Finally, several characters drink, with one appearing somewhat intoxicated in one scene.
