QUICK TAKE:
Action/Horror: A genetically altered woman joins a caravan of human survivors as they try to make their way to safety in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies.
PLOT:
Years after a virus has turned most of mankind into flesh-eating zombies and laid waste to all cities and most civilization, only a small number of non-infected humans remain. Many of them are hunkered in underground bunkers, including officials with the Umbrella Corporation where the virus originated.

Now, Dr. Isaacs (IAIN GLEN) and others are trying to find a cure for the infection, and the key apparently lies in the blood of Alice (MILLA JOVOVICH), a former head of security who's now a genetically altered warrior lose somewhere above ground. Isaacs has been experimenting with various clones based on her, but none work, and he's desperate to get his hands on her.

She's busy, however, fending off the zombies, all while desirous of getting revenge on those who've caused all of this and left her in this state. After finding an abandoned notebook that indicates there might be an infection-free town in Alaska, she ends up joining forces with a caravan of fellow survivors led by Claire (ALI LARTER) and Carlos (ODED FEHR). While their group is continually decimated by various zombie attacks, the likes of L.J. (MIKE EPPS), Betty (ASHANTI), Mikey (CHRISTOPHER EGAN), K-Mart (SPENCER LOCKE), and Chase (LINDEN ASHBY) are among some of the survivors.

As they set off to make their way from the American southwest to Alaska, they must not only contend with attacks by the zombies, but also Isaacs and his men who only want Alice for the blood and the potential cure that might reside within that.

OUR TAKE: 3 out of 10
Screen Gems didn't screen this film in advance for critics until just hours before it opened, so we're still working on this part of the review. That said, it's marginally better than the first two films in the video game adaptation series (and thankfully promises to be the last, although we've heard that before).

Yet, while of the action scenes are cool and ably handled, this isn't anything more than reheated leftovers of far better scenes found in any zombie flick, the "Alien" movies, and those early "Mad Max" pics.

With no one to care about, and the action and bloodletting becoming repetitive, this quickly becomes a bore, causing one to wish it would suffer the same fate as many a zombie within it, and thus hopefully put an end to this lackluster franchise.
