QUICK TAKE:
Comedy: A politically incorrect, redneck health inspector tries to solve a bunch of mysterious bouts of food poisoning that are occurring before the Big City Chef Tournament.
PLOT:
Larry (LARRY THE CABLE GUY) is a good-natured if politically incorrect health inspector who enjoys cracking down on restaurants that don't meet code. His methods, however, don't sit well with his wheelchair-bound coworker Jack Dabbs (TONY HALE) or their boss, Bart Tatlock (TOM WILSON), who assigns him an eager rookie partner, Amy Butlin (IRIS BAHR), for the first time in his career.
When not hanging out with his mentally challenged adult neighbor Donnie (DAVID KOECHNER), Larry shows Amy the ropes -- thinking she's a guy for having her hair back and dressing in a suit -- as they check out restaurants run by chefs such as Big Shug (BRUCE BRUCE) and Lily Micelli (JOANNA CASSIDY), with the latter's sister Brenda (BROOKE DILLMAN) wanting a bigger hand in running their mother's place.
He's also set his sights on Jane Whitley (MEGYN PRICE), a recently fired lingerie store worker who's now employed at one of the local restaurants. But when patrons of that establishment and others start showing signs of food poisoning right before the Big City Chef Tournament, Larry and Amy try to figure out who's responsible, looking at everyone from the competing restaurant owners all of the way up to Mayor M.T. Gunn (JOE PANTOLIANO).
OUR TAKE: 0 out of 10
Unless you're a diehard fan of the comedian, run for the hills to get as far away as possible from this inane comedy featuring a leaden lead actor, horrible writing, inept direction and not enough smarts or creativity to make politically correct material outrageous and/or funny. What's offered here is both lame and lazy, a double insult to the target audience it's trying to appease. The tagline for the film reads "They'll give anyone a badge" -- apparently they'll let anyone make a movie as well. Deserving to be shut down immediately for an infestation of bad filmmaking, this picture rates as a 0 out of 10. There will be more venom to come as soon as damaged brain cells have the time to regenerate after watching this mess (where even the people who willingly made the effort to arrive and pay to see this offering didn't laugh even once).
