QUICK TAKE:
Adventure: A teenage boy and his legal guardian travel to the South Pacific after decoding a radio transmission that the kid believes will lead them to a fabled lost island.
PLOT:
Ever since journeying to the center of the earth a few years earlier, teenage Sean Anderson (JOSH HUTCHERSON) has dreamed of another adventure. He gets his chance when he receives a coded message from his grandfather, Alexander (MICHAEL CAINE), a free-spirited adventurer who believes he has found author Jules Verne's fabled Mysterious Island.

Disturbed by her son's lack of fear for the unknown, Liz (KRISTIN DAVIS) is relieved when her boyfriend and Sean's legal guardian, Hank (DWAYNE JOHNSON), volunteers to go with Sam to Palau and prove Alexander is just on another wild goose chase. They hire a helicopter pilot named Gabato (LUIS GUZMAN) and his headstrong daughter, Kailani (VANESSA HUDGENS), to fly them to the coordinates in the Pacific Ocean where no island is supposed to exist.

Unfortunately, a storm quickly develops that causes their copter to crash. They wash ashore on the island and find that Alexander was telling the truth. It's a magical place where everything that is big in the real world is small (elephants are the size of puppy dogs) and everything that is small is big (lizards are the size of dinosaurs). They also find the Lost City of Atlantis and a volcano that spews gold ash. Unfortunately, they also discover that the island is sinking and they will all be underwater in a few days - or possibly hours - if they don't find a way to escape.

WILL KIDS WANT TO SEE IT?
Yes. The film is being heavily promoted on Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network and will prove enticing, especially to boys and girls age 7-14.
WHY THE MPAA RATED IT: PG
