QUICK TAKE:
Action-Horror: On an alternate world, a priest with supernatural fighting skills goes against church wishes to battle a cabal of vampires who have kidnapped his daughter.
PLOT:
In an alternate world, mankind and vampires have battled for centuries, nearly destroying the planet. The monstrous bloodsuckers were eventually defeated by a group of priests with supernatural fighting skills who confined the few remaining survivors to reservations. Years pass, the Church led by Monsignor Orelas (CHRISTOPHER PLUMMER) consolidates its power, and the world no longer has any use for their former protectors.

However, the vampire threat is awakened by a vampire/human hybrid known as Black Hat (KARL URBAN), a former priest who was feared dead in a failed mission years earlier. He kidnaps the teenaged Lucy (LILY COLLINS), the illegitimate daughter of the enigmatic Priest (PAUL BETTANY), to draw him away from Cathedral City and out in the open. Sure enough, Priest defies church law to go hunting for his child.

He is aided by a young sheriff named Hicks (CAM GIGANDET), who is in love with Lucy. The Church, though, wants to keep the reemergence of vampires a secret in order to keep the surviving human population under control. So, Orelas dispatches a team of former holy warriors led by Priestess (MAGGIE Q) to bring Priest back to Cathedral City "dead or alive."

WILL KIDS WANT TO SEE IT?
Teens, mostly male, may be drawn to the film's promise of action, special effects, and monsters.
WHY THE MPAA RATED IT: PG-13
For intense sequences of violence and action, disturbing images and brief strong language.
