QUICK TAKE:
Action: A flamboyant pirate, his former nemesis, a feared pirate and various others set out to beat the rest in finding the legendary fountain of youth.
PLOT:
Flamboyant pirate Jack Sparrow (JOHNNY DEPP) and his first mate Gibbs (KEVIN McNALLY) are captured by the British. It turns out the King wants to beat the Spanish in finding Ponce de Leon's legendary fountain of youth and has heard Jack has information about its location. And the King wants Jack to assist his former nemesis, Barbossa (GEOFFREY RUSH), who now works for the monarchy, in finding it. Jack manages to escape and then runs into his former lover, Angelica (PENELOPE CRUZ), who's recently been impersonating him.

It turns out she's not only the first mate to feared pirate Blackbeard (IAN McSHANE) onboard his supernatural ship, but she's also his daughter and has Jack captured for the same goal of getting to the fountain of youth first. Accordingly, it becomes a three-way race between them, Barbossa's crew and the Spanish toward that coveted prize. Among those traveling with Blackbeard is Phillip (SAM CLAFLIN), a missionary who wants to convert the pirate and others.

But their sights are set on the fountain and its promise of eternal life, and they need several pivotal items to gain its power. Among them is the tear from a mermaid, and they manage to capture one such feared creature who Phillip later names Syrena (ASTRID BERGES-FRISBEY). From that point on, they continue on their quest, as do the others.

WILL KIDS WANT TO SEE IT?
If they're fans of any of the other "Pirates" movies, they most likely will.
WHY THE MPAA RATED IT: PG-13
For intense sequences of action/adventure violence, some frightening images, sensuality and innuendo.
