QUICK TAKE:
Action-comedy: A bounty hunter is assigned to track down his ex-wife, a newspaper reporter who has skipped bail to try to solve a murder she is reporting on.
PLOT:
Milo Boyd (GERARD BUTLER) is a former cop who has spent the previous few years as a bounty hunter. To Milo's delight, his boss (JEFF GARLIN) gives him the assignment to track down his ex-wife, Nicole (JENNIFER ANISTON), an investigative reporter who has skipped bail to continue her investigation into a possible homicide made to look like a suicide that may or may not involve her cop friend, Bobby (DORIAN MISSICK).

It doesn't take long for Milo to figure out where Nicole is after picking the brain of his former mother-in-law, Kitty (CHRISTINE BARANSKI). Milo, though, is tasked with driving Nicole back from Atlantic City to New York City all the while the two are at each other's throats for everything that went wrong with their marriage. At the same time, the real criminal, Mahler (PETER GREENE) behind the story Nicole is working on is also on her trail after abducting her main source, Jimmy (ADAM ROSE). Meanwhile, Stewart (JASON SUDEIKIS) a nerdy coworker of Nicole's doesn't take no for answer and follows her as best he can from place to place hoping to win her love.

Milo, a gambling addict, has people after him, too, for the debts he has rung up. As he and Nicole get chased, shot at, and continually harassed, the two begin to draw closer again. Soon, they find themselves teaming up to get to the bottom of Nicole's story.

WILL KIDS WANT TO SEE IT?
Older teens may be drawn to the action elements, while fans of anyone in the cast might also be interested.
WHY THE MPAA RATED IT: PG-13
For sexual content including suggestive comments, language and some violence.
CAST AS ROLE MODELS:
  • GERARD BUTLER plays a former cop turned bounty hunter who is assigned to find his fugitive ex-wife and collect a reward. He is a fairly crass man who curses often, has a gambling addiction, is a casual drinker, and has no problem drawing his gun and using it in public.
  • JENNIFER ANISTON plays a career-obsessed journalist who jumps bail while covering a murder story. She is divorced from Milo.
  • JASON SUDEIKIS plays a coworker of Nicole's who is infatuated with her to the point where he practically stalks her. Wherever she goes, he tries to go, too, even if it's the ladies room. He's basically harmless, though, just an annoying nerd-like character who is in the film purely as lame comic relief.
  • CHRISTINE BARANSKI plays Nicole's mother, a show business diva who performs live in Atlantic City. She is clearly disappointed with some of her daughter's choices in life and doesn't mind reminding her. She is shown as a social drinker and one who enjoys talking about sexual matters.
  • PETER GREENE plays a criminal who has no problem killing, kidnapping, and committing other crimes to further his purposes. Nicole is working on a case involving a suicide, but it becomes clear that the dead man in question was murdered and Mahler did it.
  • DORIAN MISSICK plays a cop friend of Milo and Nicole's who may or may not be crooked and the mastermind behind the corruption story Nicole is investigating.
  • ADAM ROSE plays a "snitch" who tries to sell what he knows about Mahler and an alleged crooked cop to Nicole and ends up getting abducted and his life threatened.
  • JEFF GARLIN plays Milo's slightly frazzled boss.

    OUR WORD TO PARENTS:
The following is a brief summary of the content found in this action-comedy that has been rated PG-13. Profanity consists of at least 23 "s" words, while other expletives (including slang using genitalia) and colorful phrases are also uttered. Sexually related dialogue is present, as is the sight of scantly clad strippers.

Violence consists of people being punched, tasered, shot, and hit over the head with bottles, while others are manhandled or threatened with weapons. One character suffers a broken leg bone after being hit with a golf club, while another survives a car crash. Some of this has fairly bloody results, and there a few moments of potential peril that may prove suspenseful for various viewers.

Bad attitudes are present throughout, especially with regards to the two leads. There is also some potentially imitative behavior and various thematic elements. In addition, drinking is present.

If you're still concerned about the film and its appropriateness for yourself or anyone else in your home who may be interested in seeing it, we suggest that you take a closer look at our detailed listings for more specific information regarding the film's content.
