QUICK TAKE:

Romantic Dramedy: A pharmaceutical sales rep ends up falling for a young woman who has early onset Parkinson's Disease but wants no one's pity and isn't interested in a serious relationship.

PLOT:

Jamie Randall (JAKE GYLLENHAAL) is a natural born salesman and ladies man, but his amorous ways have lead to him being fired from his latest job. Unlike his younger brother, Josh (JOSH GAD) who made a fortune from a stock IPO, Jamie has no money to fall back on, and thus gets a sales rep job for a major pharmaceutical company.

Paired with veteran sales rep Bruce Winston (OLIVER PLATT), Jamie hits the road, trying to sell his company's wares to the likes of general practitioner Dr. Stan Knight (HANK AZARIA). To get to him, he sweeps one the doc's receptionists, Cindy (JUDY GREER), off her feet, but she becomes jealous when Jamie obviously shows interest in one of Stan's patients.

She's 26-year-old Maggie Murdock (ANNE HATHAWAY), a pretty woman who's facing her early onset Parkinson's Disease with humor and a willingness to live life to the fullest, including sleeping around. One of her last lovers was Trey Hannigan (GABRIEL MACHT), a sales rep for a rival pharmaceutical company that's also after the likes of Stan, but that doesn't stop her from bedding Jamie with the caveat that everything remains casual.

Yet, as he finally wins a way in to become Stan's favorite sales rep -- via a new little pill known as Viagra -- Jamie finds himself falling for Maggie, much to her dismay, although she eventually starts to feel the same way. With them facing an uncertain future -- regarding his career potential and her disease -- they have to figure out what's going to happen with them.

JUDY GREER plays one of Stan's receptionists who Jamie sweeps off her feet, only to drop her in favor of Maggie.

OUR WORD TO PARENTS:

Here's a quick look at the content found in this R-rated dramedy. Profanity consists of at least 44 "f" words, while other expletives and colorful phrases are also uttered. Sexually related dialogue (including explicit language) is present, as are various views of sexual encounters (with movement, nudity and sounds) -- including an implied three-way -- other sexually related material, and unrelated nudity (breasts & butts).

A husband of a Stage 4 Parkinson's sufferer tells Jamie that the latter should pack his bags and leave Maggie, telling him to wait until he's cleaning up her "sh*t."

DISRESPECTFUL/BAD ATTITUDE

A woman cheats on her boyfriend/husband with Jamie (who's the man's subordinate at work).

Josh sees Jamie run out of the bedroom fully nude, with just his hand over his crotch, to grab a video camera to take back into the bedroom with Maggie. We don't see any taping, but she later tapes him while telling him to wake up, and he sleepily asks, "Again?" (meaning he thinks she wants more sex).

Jamie mentions "having just f*cked my girlfriend," but Maggie objects to use of "that" word. He thinks she's meaning the "f" word and says she uses it all of the time, but she says she's referring to "girlfriend."

We see Maggie in a bathtub behind Jamie, but nothing sexual is occurring.

We hear just Jamie's side of chatting with his mom on the phone about Viagra, saying it's not an aphrodisiac but instead is a vasodilator.

We see Jamie discussing Viagra with various women, with one asking if it makes "it" longer, and he replies, "In time or inches?" He then says women can take it too, with one asking if it will make them "hard," and he says it will increase lubrication. Another asks if the man "comes" inside them will it burn (after taking Viagra) and she or another asks what if that happens in the mouth.

Jamie returns home (from selling Viagra) and Maggie jokingly asks if he got "laid," and he jokes back that he did, six times. The two then kiss in bed, but stop when his heart starts racing (but that's from him wanting to tell her he loves her, and not a medical condition).

Jamie walks in to find Josh apparently masturbating (or preparing to do so) to Jamie and Maggie's sex tape. We see tissues, Vaseline and a brief view of the sex tape (some partial nudity of Jamie on Maggie) and Josh rushes off in embarrassment. Jamie is mad, saying he caught his brother masturbating to him having sex, with Josh asking if TV magnifies things, commenting on Maggie's "t*ts" and wonders if an anaconda got loose (referring to Jamie's unseen penis on the tape).

Jamie walks in to see Stan giving himself a self-injection of testosterone into his own butt (partial nudity). He then mentions where he's going is "a f*cking orgy masquerading as a medical convention."

Feeling sorry for herself, Maggie wonders why Jamie wants to be with her, especially when there are many girls "ready to blow you" at an upcoming convention. Stan tells Jamie (on the phone) about a pajama party (and wants him to bring some Viagra). When Josh hears Jamie use that term, he repeats it and wonders if the women will then be getting naked. They then go to the party where the front door is answered by a rival pharmaceutical sales rep that Jamie knows, and she's wearing pajamas and a cleavage-revealing bra (while holding a bottle of liquor), and members of the opposite sex are seen cavorting in the background.

At the pajama party, Josh stares at a woman's breasts in her bra to the point that she tells him he can touch them. He does, awkwardly groping her.

Elsewhere at that party, Jamie and the other rep go into a room where a Taiwanese woman is nude in a tube (we don't see anything) and the female rep suggestively states she's "Thai-curious." After passionately kissing that woman, the one in the tub says she's "Jamie-curious" as is the female rep who pops a Viagra pill into his mouth and then passionately kisses him. Three-way sex is implied as they're then seen after the fact, lying nude side by side but in alternating directions, and we see the Thai woman's full rear nudity. Jamie then panics, as he apparently still has an erection, and rushes into the bathroom to splash cold water onto that (we don't see it).

We then see Josh and the above party woman sitting up in bed, with her removing her top (bare breasts) and then climbing on top of him to have sex. When Jamie rushes into that room to get Josh (due to having an unwanted and hours long erection), he sees Josh on top of the woman (his bare butt between her legs) having sex with her.

Josh then drives Jamie to the emergency room with that still unseen erection. Some jokes are made about that, including Josh apparently hitting it with his hand and saying he was going for the gear shift. Josh is happy, saying "I f*cked that girl" (he uses the "f" word sexually again), and that he had been jealous of his brother's ability to have casual sex, but not anymore. He mentions his brother with the "enormous c*ck" that won't go down and then accidentally hits it again.

At the hospital, Jamie tells the admitting nurse that he's had a reaction to a drug. When she asks what kind, he pulls the pillow away from his crotch to show the shape of his erection in his boxers and she half-smiles.

Jamie tells Maggie that her mind says one thing, but her body is saying another, prompting her to state he wants to get "laid." She then goes on that it's not even about sex for him, but instead is a way for him to spend a few hours of not having to deal with being him.

Jamie says he's the prodigal son with ADD.

Erectile dysfunction drugs.

Life as an on the road sales rep.

Maggie not wanting to become serious with Jamie (due to her condition).

Maggie accompanying senior citizens on bus trips to Canada to get prescription medication they can't get or afford in the U.S.

Due to her early onset Parkinson's, Maggie has a difficult time using scissors to cut the edge off a photograph.

A husband of a Stage 4 Parkinson's sufferer tells Jamie that the latter should pack his bags and leave Maggie. He adds that he loves his wife, but then lists all of the bad things that have happened (including her no longer being herself).

Stan saying he can't afford to become emotionally connected with all of his patients (regarding what that would do to him).

Stan complains about the pitfalls (insurance, lawyers waiting for a mistake, etc.) of going into the medical profession.

VIOLENCE

We see some explosions on TVs in the electronics store where Jamie works.

Jamie has a little bit of a bloody nose after being punched by his boss who wasn't happy he caught Jamie fooling around with his girlfriend/wife.

Maggie hits Jamie several times with her briefcase or bag for pretending to be a medical intern or the same and thus seeing her bare breast when she showed that to Stan.

Jamie punches Josh on the arm for making noise while Jamie is on the phone, and the two then whack each other.

Trey catches Jamie preparing to throw out his drug samples and then punches Jamie in the gut, sending him to the parking lot in pain. He nearly vomits from that, but Trey says that won't help with the pain. Trey then kicks Jamie's hand out from under him (that was propping him up). Jamie then punches Trey in the face, but that only hurts Jamie's hand.

Josh tries a pick-up line on a woman in a bar, asking, "What do you say we blow this joint and then each other?" She then smacks him.

We see the shadow of and hear the sounds of Jamie hitting (half-playfully) his brother with the home sex tape (of Jamie and Maggie) that Josh had been watching.

A bus door accidentally opens into Jamie (played for laughs).
