PLOT: It's near the end of the high school year, and seniors and best friends Seth (JONAH HILL) and Evan (MICHAEL CERA) have learned of a big party being thrown by Jules (EMMA STONE). Seth is enamored with her, but being a nerd like Evan -- who likes Becca (MARTHA MACLSAAC) -- and their friend Fogell (CHRISTOPHER MINTZ-PLASSE), who's smitten with Nicola (AVIVA), he doesn't stand a chance. That is, unless he can ply her with liquor, a supposedly surefire but only rumored tactic the guys are willing to try. The problem is that none of them are old enough to buy booze, but with Fogell sporting a fake I.D. that states his name is McLovin, he decides to give it a try. Just as he's about to succeed, a liquor store robber decks him, resulting in Officers Slater (BILL HADER) and Michaels (SETH ROGEN) arriving on the scene. A pair of goofballs, they end up taking Fogell on their nightly rounds, including stops at bar where they get liquored up. At the same time, Seth and Evan hope to score liquor elsewhere, a quest that ends up getting more complicated than they ever imagined. With the night wearing on and fearing they might miss their chances with the respective girls of their lustful dreams, the three guys do what they can to make it to the party and get those young women drunk before it's too late. WILL KIDS WANT TO SEE IT? It's a good bet many will, particularly after they hear about how outrageous the comedy is. WHY THE MPAA RATED IT: R For pervasive crude and sexual content, strong language, drinking, some drug use and a fantasy/comic violent image - all involving teens. CAST AS ROLE MODELS: Considering what occurs in the film (profanity and sexual talk, sexual behavior, teen & police drinking, drunk driving, drug use, breaking the law, etc.), it's doubtful anyone would consider any of the characters as good role models for kids. OUR WORD TO PARENTS: The following is a brief summary of the content found in this R-rated comedy. Profanity consists of at least 176 "f" words, while many other expletives and colorful phrases are also uttered. All sorts of sexually related dialogue is present (much of it explicit), along with sexual behavior (including teens starting to have sex, some sexual dancing, etc.), nudity (bare breasts), sexual gestures, other sexually related comedy, and the overriding bit of the teen boys wanting to ply the teen girls with alcohol to lower their inhibitions. Violence includes a comedic fantasy bit where a throat is slit (with graphically bloody results), while fighting and other such contact is also present. Guns are present and are used in several scenes (but no one is shot). All sorts of drinking (including by teens) is present, as is drug use, while some characters smoke. Other potentially imitative behavior is present, as are bad attitudes. Crude humor (including vomiting and a comedy bit about menstruation) also occurs. ALCOHOL OR DRUG USE We see a flashback to Seth, Evan and Fogell drinking beer, including puncturing holes in beer cans and drinking from those. We then see another flashback of Evan projectile vomiting out onto Seth. There's a comment about getting "sh*t-faced" (drunk). Jules and another girl ask if Seth can get booze for their party, and he agrees. Evan says he can get liquor for Becca, with her asking for some vodka. Fogell goes into a liquor store and ends up dropping beer that breaks open on the floor. Later, a worker there drinks beer while on the job. One cop says they should always take calls at bars, because they can get beer there after they're done. Many young people drink at a party where we also see drug use (marijuana via a bong and joints). Later, in a bedroom, we see some cocaine use. The cops and Fogell have beer in a bar, and they order a lot of beer to go. The cops and Fogell jokingly breathe into a breathalyzer before doing some drunk driving. Needing beer for Jules' party, Seth empties a large laundry detergent container and puts the booze in there. We later see a man drinking from that before it's taken away. About having beer for a party, Fogell enthusiastically states, "We're so gonna get laid." High school students drink at a party and one girl says that Becca is smashed and told her that she was going to "blow" Evan that night. Working from Seth's advice about getting Becca drunk in order to have sex with her, but feeling he needs to be in the same state, Evan drinks a lot (saying to himself about Becca, "She wants to suck on your penis"), all while Seth drinks shots with others. With both of them intoxicated, Becca takes Evan up to a bedroom at a party for sex. He's hesitant to continue, however, and she later vomits by him. Seth is drunk at a party and tries kissing Jules, but she's somewhat repulsed, saying that she doesn't drink (although she arranged for liquor to be at her party for others). Becca and possibly Evan and Seth are hung-over the day after a night of drinking. BLOOD/GORE We see a flashback of Evan projectile vomiting out onto Seth (from drinking). Seth goes into a liquor store and we then see various imagined bits on his part about what happens next. In one such comedy scene, a guard slices Seth's throat, with blood then spilling out from the graphic wound. Fogell has a booger on his finger (we don't see it, but see the motion of him rolling it around between his fingers). Fogell has a red mark on his cheek after being punched there. A cop tells Fogell he shouldn't take the bus as people "piss" on it. A guy at a party notes blood on Seth's pants leg, but Seth say he isn't bleeding. When he remembers a girl was grinding her clothed crotch on his leg while dancing, he then realizes it's menstrual blood, as does the other guy who frantically tries to wipe it off his finger after touching it. He then calls over others to see that sight and they joke about him having a "mangina" and some girls to ask if he needs a tampon. Later, that girl's boyfriend has the same on his pants. Later, Seth confronts that girl and says, "You used my leg as a tampon." Officer Michaels vomits from drinking and physical exertion. With both of them intoxicated, Becca takes Evan up to a bedroom at a party for sex. He's hesitant to continue, however, and she later vomits by him. Seth talks of Evan "taking a sh*t" in the past. Jules has a black eye from where Seth accidentally head-butt her earlier. DISRESPECTFUL/BAD ATTITUDE A punk refers to Seth as a "faggot" and spits on him (others laugh at this). Seth cusses in front of his cooking teacher in school, complaining about what he's being taught. Seth stands behind Jules in his cooking class and makes various obscene gestures. The term "queer" is used, as is "it's kind of gay" later. Seth calls Fogell "fag-le," and the term "retard" is also used in an unrelated scene. Seth refers to a certain type of girl being half as smart and twice as like to "fellate" him. Seth says that Fogell is the "f*cking anti-poon." The guys plot to get the girls intoxicated so that they can have sex with them. Fogell tries to buy booze with a fake ID, but just as he's about to get away with it, a robber enters the store and punches him to the floor (before robbing the register). Later, he and the two cops repeatedly watch surveillance tape of that pivotal punch (with the cops laughing each time it occurs). A car backs into Seth and knocks him to the road. The driver, nervous about a previous warrant, offers to do anything to keep Seth and Evan quiet, including getting them liquor. The cops use their siren to go through red lights. One cop says they should always take calls at bars, because they can get beer there after they're done. They then do that, and then drive drunk. Officer Slater mentions his first wife, who he says is a "whore." There's talk of one cop shooting a cat, with the other saying it was already dead (some viewers might not like that humor). The cops and Fogell jokingly breathe into a breathalyzer before doing some drunk driving. Seth and Evan have a falling out regarding the latter getting into a college for which Seth had no chance of attending. A punk spits on Officer Michaels who then clocks the guy with his nightstick, knocking him to the ground. FRIGHTENING SCENES None. GUNS/WEAPONS We see shooting action from a first-person shooter video game. Officer Michaels says that having a gun is like having two "c*cks." The cops do some target practice with their guns, shooting at least one hole in a stop sign. The cops use their flashlights like light sabers (from "Star Wars") and then shine them into each other's faces, resulting in them driving into Seth who smashes into and shatters the windshield. Panicking and trying to figure out what to do, Officer Slater then holds his gun on Seth and Evan while having them lie face down on the pavement. While trying to ferret out Seth and Evan, Officer Michaels fires a few shots into the air. After the cops' car has been set on fire, Fogell asking if he can shoot one cop's gun. The cop lets him, and Fogell empties the clip into the car. JUMP SCENES None. MUSIC (SCARY/TENSE) There's some playfully presented, suspenseful music in a few scenes. MUSIC (INAPPROPRIATE) Songs include sexual sounding lyrics (including what sounded like a sexual use of the "f" word), other profanity such as "ass" and terms such as "nigger." Some songs had lyrics that we couldn't fully understand and/or hear, thus offering the possibility of them potentially containing objectionable material. The KC & The Sunshine Man song "I'm Your Boogeyman" has lyrics that some may view as sexual innuendo. PROFANITY At least 176 "f" words (2 used with "mother," 10 used sexually as are the terms "bang," "laid" and "nail"), 69 "s" words, 32 slang terms using male genitals ("d*ck," "c*ck" and "pr*ck"), 16 using female ones ("p*ssy" and "poon"), 5 for breasts ("t*ts"), 17 asses (5 used with "hole"), 5 hells, 2 S.O.B.s, 12 uses of "Oh my God," 3 each of "G-damn" and "Oh God" and 1 use each of "God" and "Jesus Christ." SEX/NUDITY Seth and Evan talk about porn sites, including one called something along the lines of "Vagastic Voyage," and there's talk of "banging" women in vans, of a site showing people peeing on others, and Seth complaining about one that doesn't show "d*ck going in." He then asks Evan if he's ever seen a vagina by itself (acting disgusted by that). All sorts of other sexually related remarks are bad. Seth stares at ample cleavage displayed by Evan's mom as she leans over at their car and chats with them. Seth then comments on being jealous that Evan got to "suck on your mom's t*ts" when he was a baby. That prompts Evan to reply sarcastically about Seth that he got to "suck on your dad's d*ck." Jules and another girl ask if Seth can get booze for their party, and he agrees. She then makes the standard comment about you scratching my back and I'll scratch yours, prompting him to reply that the funny thing is that his back "is located on my c*ck." Seth says that Jules wants to "f*ck me," that she "wants my d*ck in or around her mouth," and then something about his semen being a dressing for her. He then says two run-on phrases that, when combined, sound sexual ("She wants to" "F*ck me"). Going to tap Becca on the shoulder/upper arm in a friendly way, Evan is accidentally bumped by another person, meaning his hand then whacks her clothed breast. She then continues, "I'm gonna give you a BJ with my mouth" and asks, "How bad do you want to f*ck me?" She then says, "I want you inside me," that she wants him to be her first (sexual encounter), and repeats that she wants him inside her. He's hesitant to continue, however, and she then vomits by him. Scantly clad Nicola is on top of Fogell, and he happily states, "I got a boner," with her then getting out some lubricant. When we return to this scene, he's on top of her under the covers, and he happily says, "It's in," but just then the cops burst in and Nicola grabs her clothes and races out. Recognizing it's Fogell (now shirtless in bed), the cops ask if he was "violating that girl with your penis?" and "We're you just getting laid?" with one then adding, "I'm really sorry that I blocked your c*ck." Later, when Fogell has them do a fake arrest and escort him away in front of the partygoers, one tells him that scene is "gonna get you so much ass." When the cops arrive to bust up a party, one of them says, "Prepare to be f*cked by the long d*ck of the law" (meant in a police and not sexual manner). The "f" word is used sexually. Seth tells Evan that the latter's mom has "huge t*ts." While trying on clothes that Evan says are too tight on Seth, they joke about being able to see the outline of Seth's "d*ck" and call it a "male camel toe." SMOKING Officer Michaels smokes twice, Fogell smokes once, and a number of miscellaneous characters smoke in several scenes (including teenagers).
