QUICK TAKE:
Dramedy: Various people try to contend with the various curveballs that life and especially love and relationships throw their way.
PLOT:
Harry Scott (MORGAN FREEMAN) is a professor who, due to a family tragedy, is on an extended leave of absence from the university where he works. That worries his wife, Esther (JANE ALEXANDER), but Harry finds solace spending time with his friend Bradley Thomas (GREG KINNEAR) who runs a local coffee shop.

Bradley is married to Kathryn (SELMA BLAIR), but her recent lesbian fling with Jenny (STANA KATIC) means the end of their marriage. His coffee shop employee, former addict Oscar (TOBY HEMINGWAY), has better luck with his relationship with new girlfriend and coworker, Chloe (ALEXA DAVALOS), something he can't say about his alcoholic father, Bat (FRED WARD), who doesn't like Chloe.

Meanwhile, Bradley ends up falling for real estate agent Diana (RADHA MITCHELL), unaware that she's still having an affair with married man David (BILLY BURKE). As Harry observes all of those relationships, he must contend with his own as well as the effect the familial loss still has on him.

WILL KIDS WANT TO SEE IT?

Nonsexual nudity (female full frontal and rear, male rear) is also seen.

A man cuts off the tip of his finger (with bloody results) and another threatens a woman with a knife and later gets punched in the face for preparing to do the same (with bloody results). Other bad attitudes are present, including people cheating on their spouses, while tense family material also includes familial deaths and strained relationships.

Various characters drink (one to the point of drunkenness), one smokes, and one is noted as being a former drug addict (with related talk).

  • During a softball game, Jenny purposefully tags out Kathryn on her clothed butt in passing. Later, and in a bar, Jenny purposefully puts her hand on Kathryn's leg under a table while getting up.
  • Chloe wears small cut-off shorts upon entering the coffee shop, thus drawing Oscar's attention.
  • We see Kathryn and Jenny lying in a face-to-face embrace (on their sides) on a bed. Both are fully nude, but all we see are bare breasts as well as a passionate kiss before the scene ends.

  • We see a quick montage of Bradley and Diana having sex in multiple positions (her on top, side by side in bed with him behind her, etc.) with views of her bare breasts, butt and movement. This is inter-cut with a partial view of Chloe and Oscar having sex while a camera records their action (for her for-pay sex tape). We see her bare butt, and then her switching off the camera while playfully saying, "That's all."
  • We see close-up views of Diana having sex with David (nothing explicit).
  • About the porno tape Chloe made, her roommate says she was told it's not "hot enough." When Chloe says she wants something, her roommate sarcastically says she wants "new t*ts and a hybrid."
  • We see Diana's bare breasts as David has his head on her lap, presumably post sex. He's nude, but the placement of sheets and the camera prevent a view of anything explicit. However, we do see his bare butt when he gets up, as well as more views of Diana's bare breasts, her butt, and then a full frontal view when she gets up.
