"ALIENS VS. PLOT: It's an average day in Gunnison, Colorado, except that former bad boy Dallas (STEVEN PASQUALE) has returned home, and remarks to his old friend and current sheriff, Eddie (JOHN ORTIZ), that he's not used to riding in the front of a police car. His younger brother, Ricky (JOHNNY LEWIS), isn't happy to be working as a pizza delivery guy, especially when an order goes to the house of Jesse (KRISTEN HAGER), a classmate he likes. Things are complicated, however, due to her ex-boyfriend, Dale (DAVID PAETKAU), being a real jerk. Dallas isn't the only town product returning home, however, as U.S. Army soldier Kelly (REIKO AYLESWORTH) has come back from Iraq to spend time with her husband and their young daughter, Molly (ARIEL GADE). Then there's local resident Darcy (CHELAH HORSDAL), who wonders what's happened to her husband and their young son when they don't return from a hunting excursion. Unbeknownst to everyone in the town, an extraterrestrial spaceship has crashed in the nearby woods. The somewhat humanoid crew -- a species known as Predators for their hunting prowess -- are all dead, but various alien "face huggers" -- large, crab-like creatures that find hosts in which to lay their eggs -- have escaped. As the people go about their various lives and Eddie tries to find the missing hunter and his son, another predator lands on Earth and then sets out to kill all of the quickly growing and reproducing aliens. The result is an intergalactic battle with Gunnison as the front line and its residents the unlucky bystanders. WILL KIDS WANT TO SEE IT? If they're fans of either movie series or the last combined one, they probably will. WHY THE MPAA RATED IT: R For violence, gore and language. CAST AS ROLE MODELS: STEVEN PASQUALE plays a young man and former troublemaker who's returned to town, only to find it under siege by both the predator and the many aliens. He uses strong profanity while battling the various monsters and trying to keep himself and others alive. REIKO AYLESWORTH plays a U.S. soldier who's returned home to see her husband and their young daughter who's initially a bit distant to her. She must also contend with the attacks on her family and their town. JOHN ORTIZ plays Dallas' old friend, the town sheriff, who must contend with everything falling apart all around him. He uses strong profanity. JOHNNY LEWIS plays Dallas' younger brother who isn't happy to be working as a pizza delivery guy, especially when it puts him into contact with Dale. He's sweet on Jesse and briefly makes out with her, but must then contend with Dale and then the monsters interrupting them. He uses strong profanity. ARIEL GADE plays Kelly's young daughter who's missed her mom (off in Iraq) and must contend with seeing monsters kill her father. KRISTEN HAGER plays the young woman who Ricky likes, and for whom she briefly strips down into next to nothing and makes out with him, only to be interrupted. She uses some profanity. DAVID PAETKAU plays Jesse's ex-boyfriend who's a jerk to Ricky and beats him up several times. CHELAH HORSDAL plays a woman who worries about her husband and son when they don't return from hunting. CAST, CREW, & TECHNICAL INFO HOW OTHERS RATED THIS MOVIE Curious if this title is entertaining, any good, and/or has any artistic merit? Then read OUR TAKE of this film. OUR WORD TO PARENTS: Here's a brief summary of the content found in this sci-fi based horror film. Profanity consists of at least 14 "f" words, while other expletives and colorful phrases are also uttered. Brief, sexually related dialogue is present, while a young woman strips down to her bra and next to nothing panties to make out with a fully clothed young man (but they're interrupted before anything else happens). Violence includes a plethora of scenes featuring extraterrestrial beings and monsters killing each other as well as many humans, all with extremely bloody and gory results. Various scenes also feature small aliens bursting from people's chests (ditto the blood and gore), and all of that material as well as various moments of potential peril might be unsettling, suspenseful or maybe even scary to viewers (but probably only very young ones and those with low tolerance levels for such mayhem). Beyond the killing, other bad attitudes are present, including that of a bully beating up a guy. Tense family material involves family members worrying about or seeing their loved ones as they're killed. There's brief drinking as well as a lone drug reference, while some of the action and such might be enticing for some kids to imitate. If you're still concerned about the film and its appropriateness for yourself or anyone else in your home who may be interested in seeing it, we suggest that you take a closer look at our detailed listings for more specific information regarding the film's content. For those concerned with bright flashes of light on the screen, there are full strobe effects in a hospital, as well as some earlier flickering of the same, and some flashing emergency lights. For those prone to visually induced motion sickness, there are varying amounts of handheld camerawork in the film, most notably in the last third of it. ALCOHOL OR DRUG USE We see what looks like a bottle of booze in Ricky's place. A homeless man drinks from a brown paper bag. Dallas has a drink in a bar. About how two clerks are acting, Eddie asks, "What, are you guys stoned?" (they just nervously smile at him). BLOOD/GORE An alien bursts out of a predator's chest, with green bloody and gory results. We see a predator cutting up an alien, peeling back the skin on its head (with green bloody/gory results). An alien attacks and kills a predator (with green blood splatter). We see face huggers moving through the woods, with a boy and his father then hiding there from the sounds around them. The dad shoots one, but the resultant acid blood hits him and burns away his arm (it falls to the ground). A dog walks up carrying a severed human arm (from above). We see an alien burst from a man's chest, and then the same thing happens to his boy (both with very bloody/gory results). Dallas and Ricky descend into a sewer tunnel to retrieve the latter's keys, and there's talk of the "sh*t" there. We then see Ricky with his arm down into the sewage, trying to feel for his keys. After finding a dead man with a large and bloody open wound in its chest, the predator pours some sort of blue liquid onto the body and it quickly dissolves away into nothingness. The predator impales a deputy with its long clawed weapon, with blood out from that wound as well as his mouth. Eddie later finds that man, completely skinned and strung up in a tree (very bloody/gory, with blood dripping down, while the body is then seen being zipped up into a body bag). The predator slowly makes its way through a tunnel, searching for aliens, and one of its enhanced views shows humans skeletons. There are sounds of violence in a restaurant kitchen, and then a waitress walks in to see an alien eating the cook (meaty, bloody). An alien's small inner jaw blasts a man through his hard hat, killing him (with bloody results). An alien drags a dead and wet body, leaving a bloody trail on the floor. The predator impales an alien through the head, killing it (with green bloody results). Eddie and Dallas slowly walk through a school and find blood everywhere (floors, walls, lockers, etc.). A woman finds a dead waitress with a huge, bloody and gory hole in her torso. The predator injects something presumably medical into its own, green wound on its body. Various aliens kill various national guardsmen (with bloody results on them and vehicle windows, etc.) while others shoot machine guns into the aliens, killing some of them. We hear a wet, squishy sound and an expectant mother says her water just broke (nothing seen). An alien grabs one person (and presumably kills them) in a maternity ward, followed by menacingly approaching an expectant mother and then pumping baby alien embryos down her throat. Later, we see all sorts of movement in her pregnant belly (as well as that of others in her same state) and then see that belly explode open (with bloody/gory results and several alien babies writhing about in the gross muck). An alien comes at a man, but the predator kills it (with bloody/gory results). The predator the blasts the heads off two clerks who approach (with quick, but bloody/gory results). It then kills another alien, but the acid blood from the latter lands on a man, burning him (particularly his face, with gory results). We see some blood dripping from something. A woman is impaled and killed (with some blood from her mouth). Dallas uses the predator's futuristic weapon to blast various aliens. The gun then seems to be empty as an alien suddenly shows itself just above Dallas, but the gun then recharges and he blasts the alien to bits. The predator then kills another alien, and then throws some sort of whip around another, killing it as well (all with bloody/gory results). The predator and main alien battle, with each knocking the other around. After the predator removes its protective helmet, it must fend off the alien and its small inner jaw that repeatedly thrusts outward. The predator then grabs and yanks out that inner jaw, followed by impaling the alien up through the chin with its clawed weapon, but the acid from the alien then burns the predator. DISRESPECTFUL/BAD ATTITUDE The aliens and predators are desirous of killing each other, as well as any humans that get in their way. When his boss says that Ricky's guidance counselor asked him to help get Ricky a job, Ricky sarcastically states that the fact that she (the guidance counselor) was hot didn't hurt matters. Dale and his friends are jerks to Ricky (working as a pizza delivery guy), so Ricky sarcastically replies that he now knows who ordered the "sausage" lovers pizza (a gay joke). Dale rushes up, punches Ricky in the face, and then kicks him on the ground. He then throws Ricky's truck keys down a sewer grate. There's some initial tension between Dallas and Ricky when the former arrives back in town. Jesse invites Ricky to swim with her at the school pool at night (trespassing). Dale and his thugs then show up (with Dale telling Ricky "I taught this little slut everything she knows") and knock Ricky into an indoor pool where they hit him and there's more struggling. The military lies to some survivors about an airlift rescue, knowing full well they intend on wiping out the town to make sure they kill the infestation. FRIGHTENING SCENES Scenes listed under "Violence," "Jump Scenes" and especially "Blood/Gore" may be unsettling, suspenseful or scary, particularly to younger viewers and/or those with low tolerance levels for such material. We see various face huggers in large glass chambers. We see face huggers moving through the woods, with a boy and his father then hiding there from the sounds around them. The dad shoots one, but the resultant acid blood hits him and burns away his arm (it falls to the ground). Another then lands on his face, while a third jumps at the boy, but we don't see the contact. A deputy slowly makes his way through a dimly lit tunnel and sees something there, but it turns out to be a homeless man he knows. Eddie slowly walks through the woods with his gun drawn. Face huggers leap onto two homeless men's faces, while a homeless woman then encounters an alien. As they pass by, we see a slime-covered boot and lower leg of a victim. Searching for his keys, Ricky puts his arm down into sewage and feels around, but then spots a face hugger nearby. There are sounds of violence in a restaurant kitchen, and then a waitress walks in to see an alien eating the cook (meaty, bloody). An alien then approaches her, followed by the main alien, but we don't see it kill her. We see something moving under bed sheets toward a little girl at night, but then see that it was just her own arm moving under there. Dale and his thugs confront and knock Ricky into an indoor pool where they hit him and there's more struggling. Moments later, an alien jumps into the pool, rapidly swims over, and attacks one of those guys. The rest flee and try to escape, but an alien grabs one of them by the legs and pulls him back inside (we don't see the impact, but do see blood splatter onto the window through which he was trying to escape). Using her mom's military night vision goggles, Molly sees an alien outside and screams for her parents. Her dad looks out the window and says nothing is there, but an alien suddenly is. It breaks through the glass and attacks him, with Kelly and Molly then fleeing. Eddie and Dallas slowly walk through a school and find blood everywhere (floors, walls, lockers, etc.). A jet drops what appears to be a nuclear bomb on the town, killing everyone and everything there, and causing lots of property damage. The resultant blast then hits an escaping chopper, causing it to go out of control. That's followed by an unseen crash, but everyone inside it survives. Survivors hear sounds around them and ready their weapons, but it's the military, and there's a brief gun standoff. GUNS/WEAPONS Handguns/Rifles/Shotguns/Machine guns/Futuristic weapons (guns, explosives, knife-like weapons)/An apparent Nuclear bomb: Carried and/or used to kill people, aliens and predators and/or cause property damage. See "Violence" for details. Survivors prep various types of guns at a store. The National Guard arrives in armored vehicles (with machine guns up top) while also carrying machine guns. IMITATIVE BEHAVIOR Phrases: "Get your f*cking hands off me," "Give me the f*cking bat," "What the f*ck /is going on?" "F*ck this," "What the f*ck are you?" We see that Ricky has a tattoo on his shoulder. Kelly's top reveals her bare midriff. JUMP SCENES A face hugger slams against the inside glass of the chamber holding it. A face hugger suddenly leaps out of water to grab a man. An alien suddenly shows up at and breaks through a window. The predator suddenly grabs Dallas. An alien suddenly slams into a helicopter's window, with Kelly then blasting it with gunfire. MUSIC (SCARY/TENSE) An extreme amount of ominous and suspenseful music plays in the film. MUSIC (INAPPROPRIATE) None. PROFANITY At least 14 "f" words (2 used with "mother"), 6 "s" words, 1 slang term using male genitals ("d*ckhead"), 10 hells, 5 asses (4 used with "hole"), 6 uses of "Oh my God," 2 of "Jesus" and 1 use each of "God," "Jesus Christ," "Oh God" and "Oh Jesus."
