PLOT: It's 1978 and Sheriff John Quincy Wydell (WILLIAM FORSYTHE) and his men are making a raid on the Firefly compound where they believe the deranged family has kidnapped, tortured and murdered many people. During the ensuing gun battle, some are killed and Mother Firefly (LESLIE EASTERBROOK) is captured, but her adult kids, Otis (BILL MOSELEY) and Baby (SHERI MOON ZOMBIE), manage to escape. Kidnapping some traveling musicians -- Roy (GEOFFREY LEWIS) and Gloria Sullivan (PRISCILLA BARNES) & Adam (LEW TEMPLE) and Wendy Banjo (KATE NORBY) -- the siblings return to their sadistic ways, behavior that's only exacerbated when they're reunited with their equally demented and murderous father, Captain Spaulding (SID HAIG). With the help of a local pimp, the family tries to stay one step ahead of Wydell who has a personal ax to grind with them. Yet, as he closes in on them, his furor grows, resulting in him enlisting the aid of thugs Rondo (DANNY TREJO) and Billy Ray Snapper (DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE) who he hires to capture the Fireflys so that he can enact a rather unlawful style of revenge on them. WILL KIDS WANT TO SEE IT? Older teen males might want to, but it's doubtful many girls or younger kids will. WHY THE MPAA RATED IT: R For sadistic violence, strong sexual content, language and drug use. CAST AS ROLE MODELS: Considering what occurs in the film, it's unlikely anyone would consider the main characters as good role models for kids. OUR WORD TO PARENTS: Here's a brief summary of the content found in this suspense film that's been rated R. Profanity consists of at least 203 "f" words, while plenty of other expletives and colorful phrases are also uttered. Various instances of sexually explicit (and sometimes crude) dialogue are present (including talk of bestiality and necrophilia) as is a sex scene with nudity, movement and related sounds, other sexual material, and various instances of full frontal and partial female nudity, while scantly clad women are also seen. Violence consists of people being killed by various means (gunfire, stabbing and much more), while there are also scenes of sadistic torture. Much of that has extremely bloody and gory results, and those scenes and other moments of peril might be disturbing and/or suspenseful to viewers. All of the main characters have extreme cases of bad attitudes (including the cop after the killers). Various characters drink and/or smoke, and drug use (pot smoking and cocaine snorting) is present, as is some potentially imitative behavior. For those prone to visually induced motion sickness, there's a lot shaky camera movement in various scenes. ALCOHOL OR DRUG USE We see a sign for beer. A woman says she needs a drink. Roy tells another guy, "You've been smoking the dope," with the other guy saying he has, but not now. Some of the Fireflys, a pimp and others drink. A pimp appears to smoke pot. Rondo has a beer. Captain Spaulding has a beer. Captain Spaulding snorts some coke (with a pimp taking away the rest), followed by him smoking a joint (and he seems quite high after all of that). Baby and others have beer. Sheriff Wydell drinks a shot of liquor. Sheriff Wydell drinks more liquor. BLOOD/GORE We see some photos of bloody victims. We see a man dragging a fully nude woman's body through the woods and there's blood on her. One killer's face is horribly disfigured (possibly burn scars, but that's never clarified). We see a severed pig's head on a post. A man who's been shot has blood on him as well as the metal armor he was wearing. We see blood from a dead woman's mouth, some on the back of her clothing where she was stabbed, and a pool of blood on the road by her. We see quick shots of various severed heads and dead bodies, etc. Otis shoots Roy's roadie in the head, killing him (with bloody results). The sight of that causes Adam to vomit and Roy and his wife have the roadie's blood on them. A deputy has some blood on his shirt from the earlier shoot-out. Adam is shot in the neck (with very bloody results). Roy's face is very bloody after Otis beats him, Adam is very bloody from being shot, and blood splatters onto Otis as he repeatedly bashes Roy's face (we only see one part of that impact). Gloria holds a gun on Baby. Baby, however, quickly throws a knife into her chest, resulting in some blood trickling down from the impact area. When Gloria pulls out the knife, however, a lot of blood gushes out. We see that Otis has cut off the hair and facial skin of one of his victims, and that "mask" is later on another victim who's still alive. A maid enters a motel room and finds several dead bodies, all very bloody, as well as some bloody handwriting on the wall. A victim tries to escape and runs out onto the highway where a tractor trailer violently smashes into her (seen from a distance). We then see a later aerial view of the carnage with lots of blood and what looks like brain matter on the road near the body that's covered in a blood-soaked sheet. We see dried blood on Mother Firefly. We hear the sound of Sheriff Wydell knifing Mother Firefly (and see her pained reaction). He then pulls out the knife and lots of blood pours out. A man picks his nose and then rolls the booger around in his fingers. Rondo slits a person's throat with blood then pouring out. Billy Ray Snapper shoots a hooker in the head with bloody results. Sheriff Wydell staples photos of victims to both Otis and Baby's bodies (with bloody results) as they sit tied up in chairs. Sheriff Wydell drives large nails down through both of Otis' hands, impaling them to the chair he's tied in, all with very bloody results. Sheriff Wydell strikes a pimp in the neck with an ax, with very bloody results. Sheriff Wydell shoots Baby in the calf (with bloody results). A man saves Otis and Captain Spaulding from a raging fire, pulling the nails out of Otis' hands (with additional bloody results). All of the killers are extremely bloody at the end of the movie, with blood running out of Captain Spaulding's mouth. Three people are riddled with bullets as they race their car toward a police barricade (all shown in slow motion with extremely bloody results). DISRESPECTFUL/BAD ATTITUDE The members of the Firefly family are sadistic murderers who abduct, torture and kill many people. Otis asks Roy if he's a "faggot" for not being attracted to Baby. A cop is demeaning to a Hispanic maid by the way he says he doesn't speak Spanish. Rondo and Billy Ray Snapper are hired guns who Sheriff Wydell employs to find the Firefly family (and they kill others in the process). Sheriff Wydell turns just as sadistic as the killers he's pursuing. FRIGHTENING SCENES Scenes listed under "Violence," "Blood/Gore" and "Jump Scenes" may be unsettling, suspenseful or scary to younger viewers and/or those with low tolerance levels for such material. Mother Firefly prepares to shoot herself in the head so that the police can't take her alive, but her gun doesn't fire. Captain Spaulding has the appearance of a demented clown (he wears such facial makeup). Otis orders that Gloria strip. She's scared, particularly when Otis runs his gun along her body and then bare breasts in a sensual but menacing manner. He then runs it down inside her panties in a similar fashion, makes her make out with him, and then makes her repeat the line "I want you to make me your f*cking whore" as he holds her head down to his crotch. While attacking Roy and Adam, Otis states that he's the devil. Sheriff Wydell pours gasoline around Captain Spaulding, Otis and Baby who are tied in chairs and then lights the fuel. A man saves Otis and Captain Spaulding from a raging fire, pulling the nails out of Otis' hands (with additional bloody results). Otis gives "the finger" to his sister. Captain Spaulding has tattoos on his fingers. A man holds a shotgun on others, but it turns out to be a water gun prank. Otis gives "the finger" to a pimp. Sheriff Wydell drives large nails down through both of Otis' hands, impaling them to the chair he's tied in, all with very bloody results. JUMP SCENES A woman suddenly pops out and startles a maid. A large truck suddenly strikes a woman. MUSIC (SCARY/TENSE) An extreme amount of ominous and suspenseful music plays in the film. MUSIC (INAPPROPRIATE) A song has the lyric, "I fooled around and fell in love" (where the fooled around part could be interpreted as meaning sex). PROFANITY At least 203 "f" words (21 used with "mother," 18 used sexually), 41 "s" words, 8 slang terms using female genitals ("p*ssy" and "c*nt"), 5 using male ones ("d*ck," "p*cker" and "pr*ck"), 7 for breasts (variations of "t*tty"), 33 asses (8 used with "hole"), 4 damns, 4 hells, 2 S.O.B.s, 15 uses of "G-damn," 3 of "Jesus," 2 of "Jesus Christ" and 1 use each of "Christ" and "Oh Jesus Christ." SEX/NUDITY We see some bare breasts in photos of tortured and dead victims. We see a man dragging a fully nude woman's body through the woods (we see various views of the nudity including bare breasts, pubic hair and more) and there's blood on her. We see a woman's bare breasts in bed. Otis may be sleeping with dead bodies, but that's never clarified. We see part of Baby's bare butt as her pants ride low. We see Captain Spaulding having sex with a woman who's on top of him (we see her bare breasts and partial views of her bare butt as she moves on top of him and various bits of sexually related dialogue are uttered such as "give it to me"). There's lot of movement and pleasured sexual sounds as both climax. He jokes that next time she pay him for sex, angering her over thinking he's calling her a whore. The scene then turns violent and Captain Spaulding wakes up from his nightmare with a different woman (showing cleavage) who's then aroused and wants to have sex after asking if he had a bad dream (he replies half and half). He complains that his "d*ck" is still sore and asks if she didn't get enough "ass banging" the night before, but she complains, "I'm still horny." We see a hooker in small shorts, as well as a sign for topless dancers. A hooker complains to her pimp that all the farmers want is a quick hand job (she then makes exaggerated male orgasm sounds, followed by "ten bucks") and that they save the "f*cking" for the sheep. Her pimp tells her to "hustle that p*ssy." The hooker then comments on the losers who want to "f*ck Princess Leia" (from "Star Wars"), with a janitor chiming in "I'd f*ck her." Some hookers joke about one's "t*tties" flopping around earlier while she was riding a mechanical bull. Baby feigns coming on to Roy, stating, "I bet all the girls want to f*ck you." He likes how she's acting and playfully asks if she kisses her mother with that mouth, followed by her suggestively saying it's not the only thing she does with it (an oral sex reference). She then asks if he's going to take her back to his room and play with her, but Otis then comes along and holds a gun on him, ending the sexual tease for the moment. We see Wendy's bare breasts as she showers. Otis then yanks her out of there and we see her full frontal nudity. A comment is made about a bunch of "corn-holers f*cking the livestock." Baby keeps repeating "Chinese, Japanese, Dirty Knees, Look at These" as she lifts her clothed breasts (that the camera focuses on, just like her rear in her small and tight shorts) to taunt Roy and Adam in front of their wives. A comment is then made about a "hot piece of ass." Otis then orders that Gloria strip to see what's been holding Roy's "balls" at attention and not being turned on by Baby. Baby comments on Gloria (now in her bra and panties and showing some cleavage) as having a tight "ass on her." She's scared, particularly when Otis runs his gun along her body and then bare breasts in a sensual but menacing manner. We hear that Mother Firefly is a prostitute, with Sheriff Wydell saying "You've been one busy whore...I bet those farm boys love you." We see Baby's bare butt as she moons Gloria. We see more photos of victims that show their bare breasts. Mother Firefly suggestively asks Sheriff Wydell if he likes it rough, adding that he can have it any way he wants (while running a finger over her lips). Sheriff Wydell replies that he likes it slow and hot as he moves in close to her, but we then hear the sound of him knifing her (and see her pained reaction). A pimp and others go to buy some live chickens, but the weird redneck who's selling them gets suspicious and asks if they plan on "f*cking" the chickens, adding that he's thought about it and then graphically describes how he'd go about doing that. We see some miscellaneous cleavage. A neon sign shows a woman's figure and "bare" breast, along with a hand that repeatedly moves to the crotch area. A comment is made about having hot and cold "p*ssy" on tap. We see a hooker in a thong bottom on top of Otis in bed, but they're interrupted before they have sex. We see Baby's bare back and butt as she stands up out of a bathtub. Sheriff Wydell holds up a photo of a dead young woman, asking if anybody would "f*ck her," adding that she's not "f*ck-able anymore." Otis, however, says she still is. The "f" word is used sexually. SMOKING Sheriff Wydell and Baby each smoke once, while some miscellaneous characters smoke in several scenes (cigarettes and one cigar). We see a photo of Groucho Marx with a cigar in his mouth. TENSE FAMILY SCENES Needing a car, Captain Spaulding punches a mother unconscious and then tells her young son in the car that if the boy doesn't come up with a reason he likes clowns, Captain Spaulding will come back and kill the boy's entire family. We hear that Mother Firefly killed Sheriff Wydell's brother in the past. Sheriff Wydell has a dream where he talks to his dead brother (who appears alive in the dream). TOPICS TO TALK ABOUT Serial killers. Sadism. Vigilantism. The fact that Sheriff Wydell turns just as sadistic as the killers he's pursuing. Otis may be sleeping with dead bodies, but that's never clarified (although he later claims a dead woman is still "f*ckable"). VIOLENCE We see a man dragging a fully nude woman's body through the woods and there's blood on her. Sheriff Wydell's forces arrive at the Firefly compound where both sides are heavily armed with all sorts of guns. A massive gun battle then breaks out between the sides, with various cops, including Sheriff Wydell being hit, but the latter keeps going (he appears to be wearing a bulletproof vest). They then fire teargas inside, but encounter an ambush by various family members who open fire on them again. Various cops are shot, while bullets ricochet off armor plating that one guy wears, but the cops eventually shoot him enough that they end up killing him. Otis and Baby ambush a woman by having Baby lying on the road as if dead or injured. Otis then comes up and we see freeze frame shots of him attacking the woman. Captain Spaulding has a nightmare where a woman who's just had sex on top of him pulls a gun and then shoots him (we don't see the impact as he wakes up). Otis holds a gun on Roy. Otis shoots Roy's roadie in the head, killing him (with bloody results). Adam then has that wood around Otis' neck, but Otis stabs him in the leg with a knife, followed by Roy and Otis struggling over a gun. During that, Adam is shot in the neck (with very bloody results) and Otis then repeatedly hits Roy on the face with the gun and then strikes him with that stick (with bloody results, including splatter on Otis). He then punches Adam on the ground and then inflicts serious pain on him (we see his legs kicking from it). To allow Wendy to use the bathroom, Baby wants Gloria to hit her hard (for Baby's viewing pleasure). Several slaps, each harder than their predecessor than follow, with Baby then throwing a can at Wendy as she goes into the bathroom. Wendy breaks a bathroom window in hopes of escaping, while Gloria holds a gun on Baby. Baby, however, quickly throws a knife into her chest, resulting in some blood trickling down from the impact area. When Gloria pulls out the knife, however, a lot of blood gushes out. Wendy escapes and runs for help, but runs into Captain Spaulding who grabs and then head-butts her. Sheriff Wydell grabs a pompous movie critic by his clothes while angry at him. Sheriff Wydell repeatedly shocks Captain Spaulding with some sort of rod and then zaps Otis with it. Sheriff Wydell drives large nails down through both of Otis' hands, impaling them to the chair he's tied in, all with very bloody results. Sheriff Wydell strikes a pimp in the neck with an ax, with very bloody results. There's another unseen blow and he then smashes the ax down into a windshield while after Baby. Sheriff Wydell shoots Baby in the calf (with bloody results). He then repeatedly kicks and flogs her on the ground and then starts to strangle her. A person grabs another by the neck that he then twists and breaks, killing the man.
