QUICK TAKE:
Children's: Winnie the Pooh and his friends set out on an expedition to find and capture a mysterious heffalump creature that lives in the nearby woods.
PLOT:
All is peaceful in The Hundred Acre Wood until one morning when a loud and thunderous trumpet-like sound wakes the likes of Pooh (voice of JIM CUMMINGS), Tigger (voice of JIM CUMMINGS), Piglet (voice of JOHN FIEDLER) and Roo (voice of NIKITA HOPKINS) from their slumber. Young Roo then tells his mother, Kanga (voice of KATH SOUCIE), that he's heading off with his friends to visit the wise Rabbit (voice of KEN SANSOM) who may know what's happening.

The wise if cantankerous bunny figures the sound must be from the feared heffalump creature that lives in the nearby Heffalump Hollow. None have ever seen one, but they've heard rumors and they only reinforce their fears of what's presumably a mysterious beast. Roo, however, doesn't seem scared and thinks they should try to capture one. The others agree, but decide that Roo is too young to participate.

The next morning, however, as his friends pack up another friend, Eeyore (voice of PETER CULLEN), like their pack mule and start off on their expedition to find and capture a heffalump, little do they know that Roo has already entered the Hollow. It's there that he meets Lumpy (voice of KYLE STANGER), a young and playful heffalump (elephant) and two soon become fast friends, although Roo learns that Lumpy is just as scared of Roo's world as his friends are of the elephants.

Despite Lumpy's mother (voice of BRENDA BLETHYN) calling out for him, the two continue to play, unaware that they'll eventually run into Pooh and the others, creating some brief tense moments between them.

WILL KIDS WANT TO SEE IT?
If they're fans of the Pooh stories and characters they probably will, while older kids probably won't.
WHY THE MPAA RATED IT: G
For not containing material that would warrant a higher rating.
CAST AS ROLE MODELS:
While it's debatable whether kids look up to animated toys as role models, here's a quick look at their major characteristics.
  • ROO is a young kangaroo who's upset when the others won't let him join their heffalump expedition and thus sets out on his own to find one. When he does, he ends up befriending Lumpy.
  • LUMPY is the young heffalump who equally befriends Roo and has a fun time playing with him, but possesses some false fears about his friends and is frustrated by not being able to make an adult elephant trumpet sound.
  • WINNIE THE POOH is the soft-spoken bear who joins the heffalump expedition but is fearful of what they might find and/or catch.
  • PIGLET is the young pig who does the same, just like TIGGER, the energetic and bouncy tiger.
  • KANGA is Roo's gentle, caring and wise mother.
  • EEYORE is the slow-talking donkey who serves as the expedition's pack mule.
  • RABBIT is the edgy bunny who takes credit for Roo's idea to find and capture a heffalump.

    OUR WORD TO PARENTS:
Here's a brief summary of the content found in this G-rated movie aimed at young kids. Despite the rating, there are several scenes (ones featuring an unknown creature in the woods, others briefly filled with peril and both featuring some suspenseful music) that might be unsettling, suspenseful or even scary to very young kids (while older ones will likely have no problem with such material).

Some imitative behavior is present (including a few non-offensive phrases), as are a few, brief bad attitudes. Some brief, slapstick style material (characters landing on others or falling, etc.) occurs, as do a few learning lessons for young viewers.

If you're still concerned about the film and its appropriateness for yourself or anyone else in your home who may be interested in seeing it, we suggest that you take a closer look at our detailed listings for more specific information regarding the film's content.

    ALCOHOL OR DRUG USE
  • None.
  • BLOOD/GORE
  • None.
  • DISRESPECTFUL/BAD ATTITUDE
  • Rabbit takes credit for Roo's idea about going out and capturing a heffalump.
  • The group sets out to find and capture a heffalump without thinking that it might have a personality and feelings, etc.
  • FRIGHTENING SCENES
  • Some/all of the following may be unsettling, suspenseful or even scary to very young viewers, but probably not at all to older preteens and above.
  • The narrator states that the peace and tranquility of the Hundred Acre Wood changed when "the stranger came."
  • Pooh, Tigger and Piglet panic when they hear the loud trumpet sound of an adult heffalump and then find large footprints from another.
  • Rabbit states that their pending expedition is fraught with danger.
  • Roo bounces along and accidentally goes over a small cliff, holding onto a rope that goes taut and saves him from hitting the ground below.
  • A bit of suspenseful music plays as Roo slowly enters and then makes his way through the thick forest where the mysterious heffalump may be lurking. Later, and while trying to retrieve his rope from a stream, we see the POV of something approaching the dock Roo's leaning off. Roo then hears something in the reeds behind him and cautiously goes to investigate. He then finds a huge door and gulps as he slowly goes inside, but once he and young viewers see that a heffalump is just a playful elephant, the suspense regarding the creature will be gone.
  • We hear some strange sounds in the woods.
  • We see Lumpy trapped in a large cage that's over top of him (but Roo frees him).
  • Fleeing Pooh and the others while scared of them, Lumpy nearly falls off a cliff and barely holds on by his trunk. Roo then ends up going over it, holding onto some old logs. He then falls from one and lands hard on another and is then trapped there (until Lumpy's mom comes along and gingerly walks down and moves those tree trunks to rescue Roo).
  • GUNS/WEAPONS
  • None.
  • IMITATIVE BEHAVIOR
  • Phrases: "A 100 acre catastrophoid," "Rabbit-rific," "Fiddlesticks and nonsense," "Lumpster" and "Rooty-tute."
  • Roo and Lumpy get into a watermelon spitting contest where they spit seeds at each other. They then end up pulling up and throwing garden vegetables at each other (for fun).
  • Roo and Lumpy jump off a short cliff to do cannonballs into the water below.
  • Lumpy and Roo play a name game where they make up words that rhyme with or sound like their real names.
  • JUMP SCENES
  • None.
  • MUSIC (SCARY/TENSE)
  • A moderate amount of suspenseful music plays in various scenes throughout the film.
  • MUSIC (INAPPROPRIATE)
  • None.
  • PROFANITY
  • None.
  • SEX/NUDITY
  • None.
  • SMOKING
  • None.
  • TENSE FAMILY SCENES
  • Lumpy is briefly sad about not being able to find his mom (but he later does).
  • Kanga is briefly worried about Roo when she can't find him.
  • TOPICS TO TALK ABOUT
  • That Roo doesn't think it's fair that he's left out of the expedition because the others think he's too young.
  • Lumpy's comment that he can't wait to grow up.
  • The fact that Lumpy had the false notion that Roo's friends and land were scary, just like Roo's friends thought of Lumpy and his land.
  • Misconceptions and rumors.
  • The fact that Rabbit apologizes for the way he and the others through of Lumpy before getting to know him.
  • VIOLENCE
  • Upon hearing the loud trumpet sound of an adult heffalump, Pooh falls from his bed and gets his head stuck in a honey pot, while Tigger bounces his chair into a wall with a painting falling down onto his head.
  • During an imagined musical number, a heffalump accidentally lands on Rabbit, trees and other items (smashing all of them).
  • Tigger accidentally lands on Rabbit after bouncing along the ground.
  • Lumpy accidentally breaks things in Pooh's house when he closes his door a bit too hard (we hear the sounds of things crashing).
  • Tigger's foot is accidentally caught in one of their traps and he's flung into the air before coming back down and hitting the ground (but he's otherwise okay).
  • Rabbit and Tigger accidentally fall into one of their own earthen traps.
