Malcolm King (ANTHONY ANDERSON) is a successful if not entirely liked Chicago businessman whose company is celebrating its 10th anniversary with news that he might be selling it for a tidy, multi-million dollar profit. That's good news for his estranged, gold-digging wife, Renee (KELLITA SMITH), who can't wait to get her hands on even more of his money. It doesn't look good for Malcolm, but when he hears news about a local kidnapping case, he gets the idea to stage his own kidnapping, and have his estate pay a $10 million ransom that his wife won't be able to get her hands on.
Accordingly, he gets his subordinate and current lover, the ditzy Peaches (REGINA HALL), to have her recently paroled, ex-con brother Herb (CHARLES Q. MURPHY) nab him and thus start the ruse. Unfortunately for Malcolm, Herb mistakenly believes that valet Andre (DONALD FAISON) -- who's recently been posing as the businessman to score with the ladies -- is his target and thus seizes the wrong person.
Unbeknownst to them, others have had similar kidnapping thoughts. They include one of King's executives, Angela (NICOLE PARKER), who quit after he promoted Peaches into the job she wanted and has now convinced her friends Kim (LEILA ARCIERI) and Brooke (BROOKE D'ORSAY) to help her kidnap her former boss and thus get revenge on him.
Then there's Corey (JAY MOHR) who lives with his grandmother and has just been fired from his job serving as a costumed restaurant mascot. Needing $10,000 to appease his recently escaped convict sister, Corey gets the idea to get the money from kidnapping Malcolm and he eventually ends up with him, hiding him away in his basement. From that point on, the various would-be criminals try to lay their claim to Malcolm who thinks they're all in on the ruse, all while his personal assistant, Miss Gladys (LORETTA DEVINE), hounds the police to find him and nab the kidnappers.
