PLOT: Having served twelve years in prison for molesting several young girls, convicted pedophile Walter (KEVIN BACON) is hoping to make a new life for himself. Besides seeing therapist Dr. Rosen (MICHAEL SHANNON) where he tries to work out his feelings and the catalyst for his former actions, he's landed a lumberyard job working for Bob (DAVID ALAN GRIER). His brother-in-law and good friend, Carlos (BENJAMIN BRATT), is the only family member who will still talk to him, but he really wants to make amends with his estranged sister. She wants nothing to do with him, but it doesn't take blue-collar co-worker Vicki (KYRA SEDGWICK) long to bed him. While she can't initially figure out the deep dark secret that obviously haunts him, lumberyard receptionist Mary-Kay (EVE) figures something is up with him. Then there's Sgt. Lucas (MOS DEF), a detective who believes that Walter might be behind recent pedophilic activities, although the parolee knows it's a guy he's nicknamed Candy (KEVIN RICE) for his tactics of trying to lure boys into his car. Watching him in action, coupled with Vicki awakening his sexuality, his new apartment overlooking a school playground and other factors, Walter tries to stymie his resurrected feelings toward young girls, including birdwatcher Robin (HANNAH PILKES). As his related thoughts and urges become progressively heightened, it's all he can do to try to control himself and prevent his life from falling apart again. WILL KIDS WANT TO SEE IT? Unless they're a fan of someone in the cast, it's not very likely. WHY THE MPAA RATED IT: R For sexuality, disturbing behavior and language. CAST AS ROLE MODELS: KEVIN BACON plays a recently paroled child molester who tries to get on with his life when released from prison and wants to be normal, but finds his urges resurfacing once again. He uses strong profanity, drinks and has sex with Vicki while also pursuing young girls. KYRA SEDGWICK plays one of his rough around the edges coworkers who becomes sexually involved with him until she learns about his past (although she eventually comes back to him). She uses strong profanity, smokes and drinks. MOS DEF plays the less than scrupulous detective who wants Walter to know that he's watching him and suspects him of recent bad behavior. He uses strong profanity. BENJAMIN BRATT plays Walter's brother-in-law and only friend who drinks, uses strong profanity and admits to adulterous longings. DAVID ALAN GRIER plays the lumber plant supervisor who gives Walter a job and briefly uses strong profanity. EVE plays the receptionist there who becomes increasingly suspicious of Walter and his past, and then sets out to turn others against him. She briefly uses strong profanity. KEVIN RICE plays another child molester who tries to lure boys into his car. MICHAEL SHANNON plays Walter's therapist who tries to help him. HANNAH PILKES plays a young girl who draws Walter's attention and admits that her father molests her. OUR WORD TO PARENTS: The following is a brief summary of the content found in this R-rated drama. Profanity consists of at least 28 "f" words, while other expletives and colorful phrases are also uttered. Sexually explicit dialogue is present, as are several sexual encounters (with movement, nudity -- breasts, butts -- and related sounds). Women and men are seen in their underwear or other revealing attire, while a male pedophile is attracted by young girls and another tries to entice young boys into his car. Other bad attitudes are present, and that thematic material and other moments may be unsettling or suspenseful to viewers. A man pummels another man (with bloody results), another fight has to be separated and a man threatens another man. Various characters drink and/or smoke in various scenes. ALCOHOL OR DRUG USE Carlos throws a beer to Walter and then drinks his own. When trying to figure out Walter's troubled past, Mary-Kay wonders if it was drugs (it wasn't). Walter and Vicki have beer. Carlos asks Walter if he has a beer, but we don't see any. Vicki downs a shot in a bar where others drink. Walter has a beer in front of him and then he and Carlos have beer. Vicki has a beer. Walter, Carlos and others have beer. BLOOD/GORE Walter grabs Candy, throws him against a car and proceeds to pummel him quite severely on the sidewalk. We see some of the impact of the punches as well as the resultant bloody wounds on his face. DISRESPECTFUL/BAD ATTITUDE Walter is a convicted child molester whose urges are rekindled once he's paroled. Although he wants to fight them and change, he starts his old habits of following and interacting with young girls. One of Vicki's male coworkers uses a pole/stick to touch her in her buttocks/crotch area from a distance. She gets mad, whacks him and says, "Go play with yourself." When Vicki says that Walter never spoke to her, he jokes that he thought she was a "dyke" and after a pause and laugh, he asks if she is (she isn't). We see Candy (the nickname Walter has given another child molester) trying to lure kids over to him and into his car. Vicki confesses to Walter that the worst thing she ever did was "I f*cked my best friend's husband" and then adds that they'd "get it on" for days. Vicki admits that she "got poked around" by her three brothers in chronological order (meaning raped or molested), but then says that she loves them now. Walter receives workplace harassment in his locker (ominous notes saying that they're watching him, etc.). Mary-Kay goes out of her way to turn Walter's coworkers against him. Carlos admits that when his wife is away, he gets "horny as hell" and fantasizes about "f*cking some other woman." It's implied that Robin's father has molested her in the past. FRIGHTENING SCENES We see dream footage where Walter's feet are walking after a child's feet in the woods. The scenes showing Walter watching and then following young girls will likely be unsettling or suspenseful to viewers. Sgt. Lucas tells the story of a young, abducted girl and then finding her body or what was left of it. Alone in the park together, Walter asks Robin if she wants to sit on his lap. She says no, but then asks if he wants her to. He says he'd enjoy it, but then has a change of heart when she says that her daddy asks the same of her and that she doesn't like it. While crying over that, she says she won't mind sitting on Walter's lap, but he tells her no. Walter grabs Candy, throws him against a car and proceeds to pummel him quite severely on the sidewalk. We see some of the impact of the punches as well as the resultant bloody wounds on his face. GUNS/WEAPONS Sgt. Lucas visits Walter again, making sure that his holstered handgun is readily visible. An old song repeatedly uses the term "mother-sucker" in it. Mary-Kay has a tattoo, while Vicki has one on her wrist. JUMP SCENES None. MUSIC (SCARY/TENSE) A bit of ominous music plays in the film. Vicki wants to know Walter's dark secret and then matter-of-factly asks him, "Don't you think I should know before we have sex?" We then see the two passionately kissing, with her starting to undress and then him removing her panties. We then see various quick shots of them rolling around and having sex, with views of her bare back and breasts, his bare butt and thrusting movements (along with related sounds). After they're done, we see him in his boxers and she's under the sheets and he jokingly says, "So you're not a dyke." Mary-Kay shows a little cleavage. We see Vicki in a nightgown in bed (after additional implied sex) and confesses to Walter that the worst thing she ever did was "I f*cked my best friend's husband" and then adds that they'd "get it on" for days. We see Walter in his boxers and then getting dressed. Later, we briefly see Vicki in small panties as she gets dressed. Sgt. Lucas unofficially interrogates Walter and asks about when he "jacks off" and makes other comments about "jacking off." The camera goes up the bodies of several "tween" girls in their jeans and skirt on an escalator (representing Walter's point of view as he follows or at least is distracted by them). We see head and shoulders shots of Walter and Vicki passionately kissing, with both on top. We then see her bare breasts, caressing and movement, and then her bare back while she lies on top of him after they're done. We see Vicki in a very tight tank-top that accentuates her bust and shows the shape of her nipples through it. She then sits on Walter's clothed lap (facing away) in that t-top and panties and does some slight moving about while there's some caressing and heavy/aroused breathing. We hear that Walter's sister wants nothing to do with him now. Robin implies that her father molests her. From a distance, we see Walter meeting with his estranged sister who knocks his hand away in anger when he reaches out to her.
