QUICK TAKE:
Comedy: An American-born princess of a European country must get married within thirty days or she'll lose her chance of becoming the Queen when her grandmother steps down from that position.
PLOT:
It's been several years since Mia Thermopolis (ANNE HATHAWAY) learned that she was an heir to the throne of the European country of Genovia where her grandmother, Clarisse Renaldi (JULIE ANDREWS), is the current queen. Having just turned 21 and being recently graduated from college, Mia travels to Genovia to become queen as Clarisse steps down.

Little do they or Clarisse's head of security Joseph (HECTOR ELIZONDO) and personal assistant Charlotte (KATHLEEN MARSHALL) know, however, that someone else wants to rule. And that would be Parliament member Viscount Mabrey (JOHN RHYS-DAVIES) who wants his nephew, Nicholas Devereaux (CHRIS PINE), to become king. To do so, he brings up an arcane rule that states that only a married woman can become Queen and gives Mia just 30 days to get hitched.

With Mia's good friend Lilly Moscovitz (HEATHER MATARAZZO) showing up, everyone at the palace races to find Mia a suitable groom, eventually settling on Andrew Jacoby (CALLUM BLUE), the Duke of Kenilworth. Neither is particularly pleased with the idea of an arranged marriage, but if that's what it takes, they'll do it. With the days counting down toward the deadline and pending nuptials, Mia tries to decide what's best for her and her country, all while Joe woos Clarisse and both Mabrey and Nicholas attempt to undermine the upcoming wedding so that the latter can become king.

WILL KIDS WANT TO SEE IT?

(Note: The "Our Take" review of this title examines the film's artistic merits and does not take into account any of the possibly objectionable material listed below).

    OUR WORD TO PARENTS:
The following is a brief summary of the content found in this G-rated comedy sequel. A handful of colorful phrases are present, as is one joking comment that's gay-based. Some fairly chaste kissing occurs and another slightly sexual comment is made.

Some bad attitudes and imitative behavior are present, while some characters hold drinks. Some slapstick style material occurs, while a young woman purposefully stomps down onto a guy's foot while mad at him. Beyond that, the rest of the film's categories have little or nothing in the way of notable objectionable material.

That said, should you still be concerned about the film's appropriateness for yourself or anyone else in your home, you may want to look more closely at our detailed listings for more specific information regarding the film's content.

    ALCOHOL OR DRUG USE
  • Some miscellaneous people hold glasses of champagne.
  • Mabrey holds a drink.
  • We see a photo of a guy holding a drink.
  • Miscellaneous people have wine.
  • BLOOD/GORE
  • None.
  • DISRESPECTFUL/BAD ATTITUDE
  • Mabrey wants his nephew to rule Genovia rather than Mia and does everything in his power to make sure that happens. He also gets Nicholas to go along with the scheme for a while (including trying to get Mia to fall in love with him despite being betrothed to Andrew), but the young lord eventually has a change of heart.
  • Mad that Nicholas didn't say who he really was when he asked to dance with her at her birthday party (where she accidentally stepped on his foot), Mia walks over and stomps down on his foot once she figures out who he is (and that he wants to take the throne from her).
  • Mabrey has the man escorting Mia on horseback show her horse a rubber snake, knowing that it will spook the horse.
  • Nicholas keeps pursuing Mia to kiss her some more even after she says no.
  • Two young boys are mean to a younger girl (picking at her) while watching a parade.
  • Mia assumes and gets mad at Nicholas for what she thinks was him setting her up to be caught on video with him.
  • FRIGHTENING SCENES
  • A tiny bit of suspenseful music plays as Mia explores a hidden passageway, but nothing ultimately frightening or scary happens.
  • GUNS/WEAPONS
  • We briefly see a photo of a man holding a shotgun (presumably for hunting or skeet purposes).
  • While practicing with a bow and arrow, Mia fires arrows that accidentally flatten a tire, break a lamppost and do other related damage.
  • Guards raise ceremonial swords.
  • IMITATIVE BEHAVIOR
  • Phrases: "Shut up" (said in an exaggerated fashion as an exclamation rather than command), "Right on," "This is so cool," "I loathe you," "Zip it," "Are you mad?" "You jerk," "I think she rocks at it" and "You rule."
  • Mad that Nicholas didn't say who he really was when he asked to dance with her at her birthday party (where she accidentally stepped on his foot), Mia walks over and stomps down on his foot
  • As Mia practices with an old style hand fan, she keeps changing her facial expression each time she passes the large fan across her face.
  • During a slumber party, Mia and others slide down an indoor slide on mattresses. Clarisse then one ups them by doing the same while standing on a mattress (and this is known as "mattress surfing").
  • Mia sneaks out her bedroom window and climbs down the outside of the palace.
  • Mabrey's maid stuffs handfuls of popcorn behind the cushion of the chair in which she sits.
  • Mia has to shoot a flaming arrow through a target as part of a ceremony.

  • None.
  • PROFANITY
  • None.
  • SEX/NUDITY
  • A few miscellaneous women show a little bit of cleavage.
  • A 12-year-old prince dances with Mia at her birthday party and says that if it were his party, they'd be kissing right now. He then wants to blow in her ear, but Mia (who's much taller than him) doesn't think he can reach.
  • As they watch a slide show of potential husbands for Mia (in an arranged marriage), a comment is made about one, prompting Joe to add that the guy's boyfriend thinks the guy is handsome too.
  • Mabrey tells Nicholas that the nephew's goal is to show Mia a romance filled with heat and passion.
  • Mia shows a tiny bit of cleavage.
  • Nicholas suddenly kisses Mia and the two keep doing that for a little bit. They then end up accidentally tripping into a fountain and we then see her in a clingy, wet dress (nothing shows).

  • Nicholas and Mia kiss as he raises her off the floor.
  • SMOKING
  • None.
  • TENSE FAMILY SCENES
  • There are several brief mentions of Clarisse's husband, the king, being dead (from sometime in the past).
  • TOPICS TO TALK ABOUT
  • We hear that Mia has a new stepfather (but very little is made of that).
  • Arranged marriages.
  • Royalty.
  • VIOLENCE

  • Mia sneaks out her bedroom window and climbs down the outside of the palace. She briefly gets stuck and then falls onto Nicholas, knocking him to the ground (both are okay).
