QUICK TAKE:
Action/Thriller: A former covert operative tries to remember his troubled past while dealing with government agents and assassins who want to capture and/or kill him.
PLOT:
It's been two years since Jason Bourne (MATT DAMON) was pulled from the sea with two bullet holes in his back and a case of amnesia, only to eventually discover that he was a covert government operative trained to assassinate others. Having successfully eluded other assassins and his former director's attempts to have him killed, Jason now lives in India with Marie (FRANKA POTENTE) the woman he met on his path of self-discovery.

Yet, he's still troubled by mysterious visions and nightmares about his former life. He doesn't have much time to think about them, however, as another assassin, Kirill (KARL URBAN), seriously disrupts his life and sends him on the run once again. He has bigger worries, however, as he's been framed for the murders of two U.S. agents who were trying to obtain missing records about a murdered Russian politician.

With Jason's fingerprint conveniently showing up at the crime scene, CIA deputy director Pamela Landy (JOAN ALLEN), who was in charge of those two murdered agents, wants to know who and what Bourne is. With fellow agents Ward Abbott (BRIAN COX) and Nicky (JULIA STILES) assigned to the case -- both having a knowledge of the rogue agent that may lead to his capture -- Jason tries to figure out who framed him and what his visions and dreams mean, all while avoiding being captured or killed.

WILL KIDS WANT TO SEE IT?
If they're fans of the first film or anyone in the cast, it's a good bet they will.
WHY THE MPAA RATED IT: PG-13

    HOW OTHERS RATED THIS MOVIE

Curious if this title is entertaining, any good, and/or has any artistic merit?
Then read OUR TAKE of this film.

(Note: The "Our Take" review of this title examines the film's artistic merits and does not take into account any of the possibly objectionable material listed below).

    OUR WORD TO PARENTS:
The following is a brief summary of the content found in this action thriller that's been rated PG-13. Profanity consists of at least 1 "f" word, while other expletives and colorful phrases are uttered. A few women are seen in some revealing attire.

Violence consists of several successful and attempted murders (via gunfire and other means), some brutal/severe fighting and some destructive car chases. Some of those scenes have bloody results and they and others may be unsettling or suspenseful to some viewers, while it's possible that some impressionable kids would want to try to imitate the fighting and stunts.

Various characters have varying degrees of bad attitudes, while some brief drinking and smoking occurs. Should you still be concerned about the film's appropriateness for yourself or anyone else in your home, you may want to look more closely at our detailed listings for more specific information regarding the film's content.

For those prone to motion sickness created by jumpy camerawork, the film is filled with all sorts of such visuals where the handheld camera bounces around, zips to and fro and the like.

    ALCOHOL OR DRUG USE
  • Abbott drinks.
  • Miscellaneous people have drinks in a club.
  • Jason grabs a bottle of liquor from a store (to treat a gunshot wound) and ends up breaking some other bottles.
  • When a young woman thinks Jason is in her place to rob her, she states that she doesn't have any money or drugs.
  • BLOOD/GORE
  • We see blood floating in the water around a person who's just been shot and is now underwater.
  • We see a photo of a dead man with a small but bloody bullet hole in his head and a pool of blood next to him.
  • Jason has a bloody lip and a man he's just fought has blood on his face.
  • In a flashback, we see Jason shoot a man and woman dead as part of his assignment (we see a little blood on the floor).

  • Jason has some blood on his hand.
  • We briefly see Jason's bloody gunshot wound in his shoulder (he pours liquor on it).
  • We see a lot of blood on a man's head following a car crash.
  • DISRESPECTFUL/BAD ATTITUDE
  • Various people try to set up Jason so that it looks like he murdered two agents and stole a lot of money. They then try to kill or have Jason killed.
  • Jason steals cars as getaway vehicles to elude those who are after him.
  • FRIGHTENING SCENES
  • Scenes listed under "Violence" and "Blood/Gore" may be unsettling, suspenseful or scary to younger viewers and/or those with low tolerance levels for such material.
  • From time to time in the film, we see various flashed and disorienting images of some past incident where it's hard to tell what's happening (although we occasionally hear screams and the sound of gunshots) and thus such moments might be unsettling to some viewers.
  • Kirill pursues Jason and Marie in a car chase through some crowded streets and then out into the fields.
  • Kirill fires a shot that hits a woman who's driving a truck with Jason as the passenger (we don't see the impact, but do see her body slump). Her truck then crashes through a retaining wall on a bridge and plummets into a body of water. As the truck sinks and fills with water, Jason tries to remove the woman (and we see blood floating in the water around her), but has a hard time. He eventually gets her out and tries to blow air into her mouth/lungs while still underwater, but it's too late and she floats away dead.
  • Jason seems ready to shoot Pam with his sniper rifle (we see the scope POV with the crosshairs on her and his finger on the trigger), but in the end he's just using it to get a view of her as he talks to her on the phone.
  • Jason pushes Nicky back against a wall to grill her for answers. He then takes her into another room where he angrily holds a gun to her head, causing her to cry as she thinks he's going to shoot her (he doesn't).
  • A several minute foot chase may be suspenseful or tense to some viewers, as Jason has to elude those after him.
  • Jason pins a man's head to the table and holds his gun on him (to get him to talk).
  • A man aims a gun at Pam who's entered the room, but then turns it on himself, committing suicide. We see the sudden arm movement and loud sound, but don't see the impact or any blood.
  • GUNS/WEAPONS
  • Handguns/Rifles/Knives/Automatic weapons: Carried and/or used to threaten, wound or kill others. Plastic explosives are used to create a small explosion. See "Violence" for details.
  • IMITATIVE BEHAVIOR
  • Phrases: "I've shoveled sh*t on six continents," "You're in a big puddle of sh*t now and you don't have the shoes for it," "What the hell /is Treadstone/is he doing here/is going on?" "Let's cut the crap," "Screwed (nonsexual), "You can go to hell," "Don't be a fool" and "Nut" (crazy person).
  • All of the stunts and fighting might be enticing for some kids to imitate.
  • Marie has some tattoos.
  • Jason calls Pam's hotel room and simultaneously asks for it at the front desk so that he can see what room number the clerk enters.
  • A miscellaneous person has a Mohawk haircut.

  • SEX/NUDITY
  • We see Marie in bed after Jason has gotten up, but we don't see any sexual activity or nudity.
  • We see Marie and other women in bikini tops at the beach.
  • We briefly see a somewhat skimpily dressed woman dancing around a pole in a club (nothing explicit).
  • SMOKING
  • A miscellaneous person smokes.
  • TENSE FAMILY SCENES
  • We hear that a politician's wife killed him and then committed suicide (in the past) and their now young adult daughter believes that to be the case, but we later learn that's not true.
  • TOPICS TO TALK ABOUT
  • The comment that knowledge changes things (meaning one's perspective of past events).
  • Covert operatives.
  • The secret doings of government spy agencies and the like.
  • Being haunted by things in your past.

  • As a fed starts to pull his gun on Jason, Jason suddenly hits him and a guard, knocking out both of them.
  • Jason holds a gun on another agent who grabs his from the fridge, but Jason has emptied it. Jason then has the man cuff himself with plastic tie-wraps and then kicks him from his chair to the floor when questioning him. Despite having his hands that way, the other agent suddenly hits, knees and elbows Jason, with the two then struggling and smashing into things in an apartment. The agent eventually frees his hands and comes at Jason (with a knife) who defends himself with a rolled magazine that he uses to hit the agent repeatedly. There's more struggling and smashing into things, with the agent then trying to strangle Jason with a cord. Jason punches that agent in the face and then ends up strangling the agent with the cord until he's dead. All of that fighting is very brutal in nature.
  • Jason breaks a gas line that eventually explodes, blowing up a house and knocking three guys (who were approaching it) backwards and through the air (we don't know their condition).
  • Jason pushes Nicky back against a wall to grill her for answers. He then takes her into another room where he angrily holds a gun to her head, causing her to cry as she thinks he's going to shoot her (he doesn't).
  • An agent grabs, stabs and kills another agent (no blood) when the later demonstrates that he's on to a conspiracy.

  • An assassin shoots Jason in the shoulder, with brief blood spraying out (just a little), but police stop him before he can shoot again.
  • Jason grabs a bottle of liquor from a store (to treat a gunshot wound) and ends up breaking some other bottles. He then holds his gun on a guard/cop who's then on the floor.
  • Jason hits several cops and sideswipes a vehicle as he tries to escape in a taxi.
  • During a long car chase through the city and then in a highway tunnel, various vehicles (cars and trucks) collide, and crash into things or each other (in a very severe and jarring fashion). Jason and an assassin exchange gunfire at each other during this chase with more smashing of vehicles and finally the two crashing into a tunnel wall. The assassin appears to be dead (and is bloody).
