QUICK TAKE:
Action/Horror: A genetically altered woman tries to find and save a young girl in a city targeted for nuclear destruction after it's overrun by contagious zombies.
PLOT:
Alice (MILLA JOVOVICH) was the former head of security at The Hive, an underground and top secret research facility for experimental viral weaponry for the Umbrella Corporation. Unfortunately for her and everyone else working there, a virus got loose and infected most everyone, turning the dead into zombies hungry for the non-infected. Only Alice and another man managed to survive, but they were captured and experimented on by Umbrella Corporation scientists.

When Alice awakens, she finds the place deserted and Raccoon City infested with the undead. The government has cordoned off access to the city, carefully checking all who enter. This process is policed by the corporation's Special Tactics and Rescue Services team where the likes of Carlos Olivera (ODED FEHR), Jill Valentine (SIENNA GUILLORY) and Sgt. Peyton Wells (RAZ ADOTI) try to keep the peace.

After an infected person is found at the checkpoint, however, the city is sealed off, leaving them and TV reporter Terri Morales (SANDRINE HOLT) trapped among the many zombies. As Carlos and his team try to fight off the attackers, Jill, Peyton and Terri seek refuge in a church, but their sanctuary is short-lived. That's when Alice -- whose genetically altered body has left her with superhuman strength and related combat abilities -- rescues them. Yet, they must not only deal with the zombies, but also a seemingly indestructible genetic mutation -- named Nemesis -- that's being controlled by Maj. Cain (THOMAS KRETSCHMANN) who has an unusual interest in Alice.

While dealing with all of that, they get a chance to escape when wheelchair bound scientist Dr. Ashford (JARED HARRIS) offers to get them out in exchange for them finding and rescuing his middle school student daughter, Angie (SOPHIE VAVASSEUR), who's hiding somewhere in the city. They agree and, joined by civilian L.J. (MIKE EPPS), attempt to find the girl and get out before a planned nuclear attack kills them and everything else in the city.

    HOW OTHERS RATED THIS MOVIE

Curious if this title is entertaining, any good, and/or has any artistic merit?
Then read OUR TAKE of this film.

(Note: The "Our Take" review of this title examines the film's artistic merits and does not take into account any of the possibly objectionable material listed below).

    OUR WORD TO PARENTS:
The following is a brief summary of the content found in this horror-based action film that's been rated R. Profanity consists of at least 14 "f" words, while other expletives and colorful phrases are uttered. Several women are seen topless (and in small panties), while another is seen fully nude from the side and various other angles (but without any crotch shot).

Violence consists of zombies attacking and killing humans, as well as humans killing zombies in various fashions and with various sorts of weaponry. Other brutal fighting and related contact is also present, while a person jumps to their death and another tries to commit suicide with a gun to their head.

An extreme amount of blood and gore is present and all of that material and more (including various "jump scenes") may be unsettling, suspenseful or downright scary to some viewers (particularly younger ones and those with low tolerance levels for zombie and suspense-related mayhem, etc.).

Bad attitudes are present, while some characters smoke and one briefly drinks. Brief tense family material involves several children seeing their fathers shot to death. Should you still be concerned about the film's appropriateness for yourself or anyone else in your home, you may want to look more closely at our detailed listings for more specific information regarding the film's content.

For those concerned with bright flashes of light on the screen, some of that occurs during a thunderstorm scene.

  • A girl sees her infected father turn into a zombie and then attack Peyton, biting him on the leg. Jill then shoots the zombie dead.

  • L.J. drives over a zombie (that flips over his car) but then accidentally crashes his car into another while celebrating.
  • A man shoots several zombies in the head (with bloody results) and repeatedly shoots the hulking Nemesis, but his bullets don't harm the mutant creature. Nemesis then fires a grenade or rocket at the man, blowing up part of a roof. Others then open fire on Nemesis with various guns, but again to no avail. Nemesis then fires a massive machine gun at the men, mowing all of them down expect for L.J. who quickly surrenders and drops his handguns.
  • Nemesis shoots a STARS member dead. Alice then rushes at the mutant, shooting many times, but she end up jumping into a pillar. Nemesis then shoots gunfire and a grenade or missile at her, blowing up a car beneath her as she jumps out of the way. Her fire goes out, however and it appears that the dogs will get them. But Alice shows up and flicks something lit into the kitchen that then ignites the gas just as the dogs jump through a door.
