PLOT: David Grant (KURT RUSSELL), is an intelligence agent who is thrust into a terrorist hijacking situation. Several Arab terrorists have taken over a plane, stating that they want a comrade released, but their real intention is to detonate a chemical bomb over the United States which would kill millions of people. Grant must get to the plane with a team of commandos (led by STEVEN SEAGAL) and defuse the situation -- and the bomb before the plane gets to the U.S. WILL KIDS WANT TO SEE IT? Yes. With Steven Segal and Kurt Russell in an action thriller the kids will beg you to see this. WHY THE MPAA RATED IT: R For violence and brief language. CAST AS ROLE MODELS: KURT RUSSELL plays an intelligence agent who takes over a rescue attempt to free hijacked passengers. STEVEN SEAGAL plays a commando leader who uses violence to get what he needs. CAST, CREW, & TECHNICAL INFO HOW OTHERS RATED THIS MOVIE ALCOHOL OR DRUG USE Some people drink champagne. People drink cocktails at a reception. One of the survivors says he needs "a drink, a big drink." BLOOD/GORE There is lots of blood splattering when people are shot. Bloody bullet holes on dead people are seen. There are two views of a dead flight attendant (with blood on her head and her eyes open). DISRESPECTFUL/BAD ATTITUDE The bad guys are killers & terrorists -- 'nuff said. FRIGHTENING/TENSE SCENES Terrorists hijack a plane and everyone is upset and screaming. Commandos rush to move from the rescue plane to the airliner before their umbilical cord breaks. There are plenty of tense scenes as the commandos sneak around the plane alluding the terrorists. A bomb has to be defused and many times the tension mounts as the snipping of the wrong wire will kill everyone. Grant has to land the plane without crashing (so that the bomb doesn't go off). GUNS/WEAPONS Guns, machine guns, and 1 grenade launcher are used to wound and kill lots of people. IMITATIVE BEHAVIOR Lots of people using guns. JUMP SCENES A flight attendant is surprised as the head terrorist unexpectedly grabs her. MUSIC (SCARY/TENSE) Lots of tense music accompanies the numerous tense scenes. MUSIC (INAPPROPRIATE) None. PROFANITY 2 "s" words, 2 "ass" words, 2 "damns", 1 bastard, sob, and hell, several uses of "Jesus Christ" as exclamations. SEX/NUDITY A rape scene is briefly seen (no nudity). A soldier says they've come prepared (to retake the plane) and they "even brought condoms just in case" (said for laughs). SMOKING None. TENSE FAMILY SCENES None. TOPICS TO TALK ABOUT A rape is briefly seen. Hijacking of an airplane. Threatening to use chemical weapon to kill millions of people. The White House has to make decision of killing several hundred innocent people in order to save millions. VIOLENCE There are three deaths by knife (1 throat slit, 2 stabbings in the back of necks), and many people are killed by machines. A suicidal terrorists blows himself up in restaurant, killing many people. There are execution style murders (people shot in the back of the head). A flight attendant is thrown aside and killed. A rape is briefly seen. A man is sucked out of the rescue plane which also crashes killing everyone on board. The head terrorist kills one of his own men with two bullets to the chest. The head terrorist threatens to shoot a flight attendant (aiming his gun at her) but doesn't. Many people are shot and are wounded or killed. People are sucked out of a plane when its side blows out. All of the terrorists are killed in a machine gun shootout on the plane. The pilots are killed and the plane goes out of control. All in all, there is a high death count (I lost exact count) and many are wounded. Reviewed March 17, 1996
