QUICK TAKE:
Comedy: A rag tag Navy crew is assigned to the command of an old submarine.
PLOT:
Tom Dodge (KELSEY GRAMMER) is assigned the command of an old diesel powered submarine to test the readiness of the present day nuclear fleet. Dodge must take his rusty boat, rag tag crew and get both in shape for this assignment. The stereotypical misfit crew comes together and Dodge uses his skill and tactics to outmaneuver the navy fleet and head for his make believe battle destination.
WILL KIDS WANT TO SEE IT?
Probably. It's aimed toward kids and if they like Kelsey Grammer ("Frasier") or Rob Schneider ("Saturday Night Live") they'll be drawn to it.
WHY THE MPAA RATED IT: PG-13
For some crude language.
CAST AS ROLE MODELS:
  • KELSEY GRAMMER plays the fun loving, hard partying commander assigned to an old submarine.
  • ROB SCHNEIDER plays the "everything by the books until it get obnoxious," second in command.

    HOW OTHERS RATED THIS MOVIE

    ALCOHOL OR DRUG USE
  • The chief engineer takes one shot of liquor.
  • BLOOD/GORE
  • None.
  • DISRESPECTFUL/BAD ATTITUDE
  • The men lust after a woman officer in one scene, but never after that.
  • The sailors make an officer walk the plank because they don't like him.
  • FRIGHTENING/TENSE SCENES
  • When the subs running "silent" while other subs "hunt them" might be scary for the youngest kids.
  • GUNS/WEAPONS
  • Just the firing of torpedoes at an empty ship.
  • IMITATIVE BEHAVIOR
  • A sailor gets shocked several times while working with electrical wiring (played for laughs with no apparent lasting harm to him).
  • The men lust after a woman officer and make crude remarks.
  • JUMP SCENES
  • None.
  • MUSIC (SCARY/TENSE)
  • None.
  • MUSIC (INAPPROPRIATE)
  • None.
  • PROFANITY
  • 1 "f" word, several "s" words, 2 ass words, 1 damn, 1 SOB.
  • SEX/NUDITY
  • There are three references to a tattoo ("Welcome Aboard") on Dodge's genitals.
  • The crew lusts after a woman officer with several lines of innuendo ("...hard to do," etc...)
  • The woman officer's clothes are shrunken by the sailors, and thus tightly fit her body and show a lot of cleavage.
  • SMOKING
  • The cook smokes cigars while the chief engineer smokes a cigarette.
  • TENSE FAMILY SCENES
  • None.
  • TOPICS TO TALK ABOUT
  • War games.
  • VIOLENCE
  • There is some slapstick violence (ie. the greasing of the floor and ladder causes an officer to slip and then slide down the ladder bumping his chin on every rung).
  • One officer is made to "walk the plank" but ends up falling into a nearby fishing boat.
  • A sailor is repeatedly shocked while working with electrical wiring -- this is played for laughs.
