PLOT & PARENTAL REVIEW

VIDEO:
(C+) The slow motion opening is somewhat blurry and isn't as sharp as one would expect for a contemporary film. In addition, film artifacts (scratches and other "blips") are also present at various points during the film (indicating a less than pristine print was used for the transfer). While I don't recall if the theatrical presentation was the same, the DVD displays an overall warm tint to the picture, thus giving it a bit of a "muddy" look, particularly in the more dimly lit scenes. Outdoor and brightly lit scenes, on the other hand, look much better but still aren't razor sharp. Finally, some compression-related pixelation takes place throughout the disc. (Interestingly, the full screen -- Pan & Scan -- version looks a bit better -- in picture quality -- than the letterbox version.
AUDIO:
(A) The period dramatic score sounds bright and clear, but there's not much here to tax one's audio system.
EXTRAS:
  • Scene selection/Jump to any scene.
  • Cast & Crew credits list (2 text pages).
  • "About the Production" (4 text pages with 1 still image each).
  • Theatrical trailer.
  • Additional trailers for "Body Heat" and "Dangerous Liaisons."
  • COMMENTS:
While the film is artistically captivating and fun to watch, the DVD presentation has to be something of a disappointment due to the less than stellar picture quality.
