Recent widow Lucy Muir (Gene Tierney) rents a house by the ocean, which turns out to be haunted by a cantankerous sea captain (Rex Harrison). Although difficult at first, their friendship blossoms and the captain even "ghostwrites" an autobiographical book to bring in money for her.
Eventually, the unlikely pair fall in love, only to be challenged when a flesh and blood suitor (George Sanders) appears on the scene. With its heartwarming screenplay and Oscar-nominated cinematography, "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" is a moving classic in Hollywood's best style.
As directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz ("Cleopatra," "Guys and Dolls") and written by Phillip Dunne ("How Green Was My Valley," "The Robe") - who work from the novel by R.A. Dick - this 1947 fantasy romance preceded another ghostly love story - "Ghost" by nearly half a century.
Yet, while today's younger viewers might find it dreadfully slow and deliberate, it's every bit as enjoyable and romantic, and is certainly far more charming. George Sanders, Anna Lee and Natalie Wood appear in supporting roles and the film later spawned a TV sitcom in the late 1960s

Meet Roy (Patrick Swayze) and Candy (Charlize Theron) and Lonnie Earl (Billy Bob Thornton) and Darlene (Natasha Richardson), two close married couples who thought they knew one another until they decided to take their dream vacation together. Now they're hitting the road in a brand-new, fully loaded SUV -- and having the time of their lives -- until a funny thing happens on the way to the monster truck show in Reno, Nevada. Lonnie Earl, it seems, has a thing for Candy, and when evidence of this starts to surface, this fun-filled road trip really heats up. (Studio Copy)
Despite its impressive name cast, this film barely received a theatrical release (never playing on more than 200 screen and thus grossing only a bit more than a quarter of a million dollars at the domestic box office), and one can see why. While it manages a few meager laughs, it's otherwise an unremarkable and forced comedy.
